The Marvel Cinematic Universe is preparing for two massive crossover events in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, and a genius theory explains how The Marvels will be key in setting up Secret Wars. The Multiverse Saga is not only introducing new characters and events to the MCU in both movies and TV shows, but it’s also continuing the stories of already established heroes, though most of them are coming back to join forces with other characters, who in most cases have similar powers and/or stories.

Such is the case of Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), who is coming back in The Marvels, the sequel to her 2019 solo movie Captain Marvel. The Marvels will see Carol joining forces with Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), who after the events of WandaVision got the ability to absorb energy, and Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), who was introduced in her own TV series Mrs. Marvel. The Marvels will see these characters swapping places with each other every time they use their powers, so they will team up to find out why. However, a theory suggests that there will be a lot more to The Marvels than that, and it will be key in setting up Avengers: Secret Wars thanks to Kamala and her bangle.

Theory: Kamala Khan Will Trigger An Incursion In The Marvels

Kamala using her powers in Ms Marvel

Although plot details about The Marvels are scarce and no official images nor any type of teaser have been released, the movie is expected to continue building the path to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, and Kamala Khan might be key to this as she might trigger an incursion with her bangle. Kamala Khan is a mutant hybrid and a super fan of Captain Marvel, whose genetic powers were unleashed after she found a bangle that belonged to her grandmother, though her mother tried to keep it away from her. Thanks to the bangle, Kamala is able to use her natural ability to manipulate extradimensional energy, which she primarily uses in the form of solid energy constructs, and allows her to stretch and manipulate her physical body with this same energy.

Now, the bangle was found by Kamala’s great-grandmother, Aisha, a being from the Noor Dimension who was exiled into the Earthly Plane along with four others, who formed a group known as the Clandestines. Together, they searched for a pair of bangles that would return them home, and Aisha found one at a Ten Rings temple in India, but she was separated from the Clandestines after the British Armed Forces attacked the temple. The bangle allows whoever wears it to extract and manipulate the Noor, a power known as “hard light” that serves as the energy source of the Noor Dimension and its inhabitants, and when used by someone with genes from this dimension, it unlocks their latent powers, as happened to Kamala.

With the bangle taking energy from another dimension and Kamala still learning about this artifact and how to properly use it, The Marvels could see her accidentally triggering an incursion by pulling characters or other dangerous stuff from other dimensions, which the MCU has already shown can threaten the balance of the multiverse (which is also quite unstable by now after the events of Loki, Spider-Man: No way Home, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness).

How Incursions Are Caused In The MCU (& How Many Are There Now)

Doctor Strange 2 incursion

The concept of incursions in the MCU was introduced in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which saw Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) traveling through the multiverse with America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) as she was being hunted by Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen). It was explained that an incursion is an event where two universes crash into one another, and while it’s not exactly clear how an incursion is triggered, prolonged multiversal travel can cause incursions, as some of Doctor Strange variants did. At the end of Doctor Strange 2, Clea (Charlize Theron) arrived to inform Strange that he had caused an incursion and now they had to fix it, so there’s, at least, one incursion currently happening in the MCU.

If Strange’s multiversal traveling in Doctor Strange 2 triggered an incursion, it raises the question of whether Spider-Man (Tom Holland) triggered one in No Way Home or not. It’s generally assumed that Peter and Strange stopped an incursion from happening thanks to the final spell, but there’s debate over this as Adrian Toomes/Vulture (Michael Keaton) seems to be trapped in Morbius’ (Jared Leto) universe over at Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, which would cause an incursion. The MCU, then, might have two incursions going on at the moment, and could add one more thanks to Kamala and her bangle.

Ms. Marvel Already Teased The Powers Of The Bangle

In addition to the above-mentioned capabilities of the bangle, Ms. Marvel showed that it can allow its user to travel through time. While fighting Najma, the latter tried to stab Kamala but stabbed the bangle instead, resulting in Kamala being taken back in time to 1947, as part of a predestination paradox as she was meant to help her young grandmother leave India, after which she was brought back to the present. At the end of Ms. Marvel, the bangle caused Kamala to swap places with Carol, setting up the events of The Marvels, but also showing that there’s a lot more to learn about this object, its power, and the energy it draws from the Noor Dimension, which could be potentially disastrous.

How An Incursion In The Marvels Can Set Up Avengers: Secret Wars

Avengers Secret Wars She-Hulk

The Secret Wars comic book event saw the destruction of the Marvel Universe and other alternate universes, with each one’s respective Earth combining with each other into Battleworld. Of course, when translating this to the big screen, Marvel will have to make many changes, but the introduction of incursions shows how the events of Secret Wars will be unleashed. Universes clashing and the Council of Kangs looking for revenge against the Avengers and more are enough for Secret Wars to be triggered, and Kamala adding another incursion to the mix only makes the upcoming multiversal conflict even bigger and more complex. Among the many criticisms against Captain Marvel was that it felt disconnected from the rest of the MCU, and The Marvels can fix this by making it key in setting up Avengers: Secret Wars, even if that means Kamala Khan accidentally making universes clash.
