The Marvels is the long-awaited return of Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), and it’s fixing a big complaint about her past appearances. After her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe back in 2019 in her solo movie and a couple of brief appearances in other movies, Captain Marvel is finally coming back for a new adventure in The Marvels, where she will reunite with Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and meet Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), with whom she will have to team up to uncover a couple of mysteries, while also coming across villain Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton).

The Marvels will see Captain Marvel, Monica, and Kamala swapping places with each other every time they use their powers, this after an investigation into a wormhole linked to the Kree that ends up entangling their powers. Carol, Monica, and Kamala will have to join forces to find out why they keep swapping places and how to fix it, but this mission will also lead them to confront some issues between them, particularly between Carol and Monica. The first trailer for The Marvels gave viewers a taste of their upcoming mission, but it also shows that the movie is fixing a big Captain Marvel complaint that arose after her brief appearances in other movies.

The Marvels Is Giving Captain Marvel More Personality

Captain Marvel in Avengers Endgame

Captain Marvel has been the target of online hate since her first movie was announced, and the biggest complaints about the character – both from haters and supporters – is all about Carol’s personality. Carol is stubborn, rebellious, brash, and gets easily frustrated, but she also has a good heart and is fiercely loyal. However, due to being kidnapped and brainwashed by the Kree for years, she was stoic, but once she regained her memories she became friendlier and more expressive, but not too much. Many viewers complained about Captain Marvel being too stoic and cold, not just in her solo movie but also in her subsequent appearances in Avengers: Endgame and the mid-credits scene of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Unlike the rest of the characters in the MCU, and even though she had a whole movie for herself, Captain Marvel was written in a way that didn’t let Brie Larson’s charisma and charm shine through, but The Marvels looks to be fixing this based on the trailer. Captain Marvel is showing more personality and a sense of humor, which will finally allow the audience to truly get to know her.

Why Captain Marvel's Personality Change Makes Sense

Carol Danvers had to deal with a lot of trauma all of a sudden in Captain Marvel, so it’s understandable that she came off as too stoic in his first solo movie, though that doesn’t justify her personality in subsequent appearances. Captain Marvel’s personality change in The Marvels makes a lot of sense because Carol is no longer under the control of the Kree and she has been through a lot since the events of Captain Marvel, so there’s no need for her to not show her personality anymore. Carol has had enough time to deal with her past demons and go back to her true self, and now that she’s back as the main character, there’s plenty of time for her to finally be herself – and to make it more interesting, interacting with Monica and Kamala will help Carol bring out her personality and sense of humor, thus fixing Marvel’s past mistakes.
