The title for The Mandalorian season 3, episode 4 has been revealed by director Carl Weathers, potentially hinting at the episode containing reveals about Grogu's Order 66 ordeal. Lucasfilm usually hold episode titles for The Mandalorian back for the respective releases' title cards. This is often because they carry deep meaning, perhaps indicating the story direction or setting up major plots. Surprisingly, though, the title of The Mandalorian season 3, episode 4 has been revealed prior to the airdate.Actor and director Carl Weathers has taken to social media to confirm The Mandalorian season 3 episode 4 will be his second time in the director's chair, after heming season 2, episode 4. Written by Dave Filoni alongside regular screenwriter Jon Favreau, it will be titled "The Foundling."

All this seems to indicate The Mandalorian season 3, episode 4 will potentially have major elements of Star Wars lore, likely associated with Grogu - the most famous Foundling in the Star Wars galaxy. The trailer for The Mandalorian season 3 included a flashback of what appears to be Order 66, so an episode centered on Grogu could well reveal how he survived the Jedi Purge.

"The Foundling" Hints At Two Major Grogu Plot Points

Grogu, Younglings, Order 66 in Star Wars.

With "The Foundling" almost undoubtedly referring to Grogu, given he is Din's foundling in the eyes of the Children of the Watch, it is safe to assume the episode will be centered on the young Jedi-Mandalorian. This hints that The Mandalorian season 3, episode 4 will focus on one of the major mysteries surrounding Grogu thus far in the show: his experience with Order 66. The Mandalorian season 2 and The Book of Boba Fett confirmed he was in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant when Order 66 was committed, with a vision of Grogu's Order 66 experience in the latter Disney+ TV show.

Filoni's previously-written episodes have featured big Star Wars moments (including the live-action appearance of Ahsoka Tano and the first hint at Boba Fett's survival after Return of the Jedi), it is likely "The Foundling" will follow suit. Also, given Weathers's previous directorial effort divulged hints about the Empire's plans for Grogu, the signs point to The Mandalorian season 3, episode 4 revealing Grogu's Order 66 ordeal. Whether this will confirm theories of Mace Windu or Anakin Skywalker saving Grogu remains to be seen. That being said, it is incredibly likely that Order 66 is one of the focuses of the upcoming episode.

Another potential plot point that "The Foundling" hints at concerning Grogu could be the young foundling's induction into the Children of the Watch. The Mandalorian season 3, episode 1 opened with a Mandalorian foundling undergoing the ritual of being inducted into the group, with the trailer providing hints that Pedro Pascal's Din himself will oversee a similar ritual. This could be Grogu's baptism, in which he is officially accepted as a Mandalorian after years of being torn between the Jedi and his found family in The Mandalorian.
