Lucasfilm has officially announced The Mandalorian season 3's release date, confirming Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu return in March 2023. The third season of the hit Disney+ series is one of many Star Wars TV shows that was previously announced to release sometime in 2023. Audiences have waited over two years to see the next season of The Mandalorian, although viewers have seen Din Djarin and Grogu again thanks to The Book of Boba Fett. Their returns allowed Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni to reunite the duo quickly after separating them in the season 2 finale. It has now been confirmed by Lucasfilm that The Mandalorian season 3 releases on Disney+ on March 1, 2023. It was previously announced that the new season of the Star Wars TV show would debut in early 2023, with some reports stating that a February release was planned. Lucasfilm has now confirmed that is not the case with The Mandalorian season 3's March 2023 premiere date. The release means it will be over 26 months between the new seasons of the hit series. The announcement also came with a new image from season 3 that includes Grogu wearing his Beskar armor under his clothes.Related: The Mandalorian's Endgame Plan Avoids The Star Wars Sequels' Biggest Problem

Why The Mandalorian Season 3 Is Releasing So Long After Season 2

The long wait for The Mandalorian season 3 is the result of Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni playing a big part in creating other content for Disney+ as well. The creators played a pivotal role in making The Book of Boba Fett, which was often referred to as The Mandalorian season 2.5 due to its strong connection to the main series. Making the Boba Fett-focused series took precedence over The Mandalorian season 3 for them, which is why it was able to debut on Disney+ in late 2021. The Book of Boba Fett helped make up for the show not fully returning, especially since one episode was entirely focused on Mando.

Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have been busy elsewhere in the Star Wars franchise too. Filoni is at the center of making Ahsoka and continuing the story from Star Wars Rebels. Jon Favreau is also involved as a producer on Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. Both of these shows are confirmed to release on Disney+ in 2023. While The Mandalorian season 3 is releasing before either of them, it would seem that the development of these other shows also kept the creators busy.

The good news now is that The Mandalorian season 3's release date is only three months away. That is not too long of a wait all things considered and means viewers have plenty of time to rewatch the series in preparation for Din Djarin and Grogu's return in early 2023. With the few story details that are known about The Mandalorian season 3, the war for Mandalore could help the series deliver its biggest season yet.
