This article contains spoilers for The Mandalorian season 3 episode 6.Star Wars fans are divided over the massive cameos in The Mandalorian season 3, episode 6. The last few years have seen Lucasfilm focus on expanding the Star Wars franchise on the small screen, with an ever-expanding range of Disney+ TV shows - spearheaded by The Mandalorian. The franchise has always been known for its cameos, and the best approach is to ensure these don't dominate. Sometimes the cameos are so subtle viewers can be forgiven for missing them; Daniel Craig played a stormtrooper in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, for example.

The Mandalorian season 3, episode 6 featured rather more overt cameos by Jack Black and Lizzo, who appeared in several key scenes as the quixotic rulers of Plazir-15. They've generated something of a mixed reception among viewers, however.

The problems were likely compounded by the rather strange characters the two played. Lizzo's character, for example, was clearly modeled on the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland, complete with a scene involving a caterpillar-like creature. There, however, the queen's capricious nature is actually significant; here, it was played for laughs.

Is Star Wars Overdoing Its Cameos?

Although some viewers felt The Mandalorian's cameos in season 3, episode 6 were overdone, the opinion is far from universal. In truth, it's all a matter of point of view, and likely reflects whether a viewer found the overarching story immersive enough to be drawn back into the story. If they did, then the cameo would be a delightful joke, soon set aside.

These particular cameos were likely more problematic due to their exaggerated nature. Many viewers have found themselves comparing Jack Black and Lizzo's characters to Ken and Barbie, which seems appropriate. At times, Katee Sackhoff genuinely seemed to be struggling to stop herself laughing - and it didn't feel like acting.

Star Wars' celebrity cameos are something of a tradition. The problem, of course, comes when they become the biggest discussion point. That, unfortunately, seems to be the case with The Mandalorian season 3, episode 6.
