Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for The Mandalorian season 3, episode 4.Although he may be the current wielder of the Darksaber in The Mandalorian season 3, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) needs to start using the legendary blade more often. Having only ignited the blade once four episodes into the season during his visit to the ruins of Mandalore, it's clear Djarin is still untrained and has great difficulty wielding the blade. As such, one can argue that Djarin needs to either improve his skills soon, or the iconic blade should pass on to someone better suited to wield it.

In The Mandalorian season 3, episode 4, Din joins the hunt to rescue one of his clan's youngest members who'd been taken by a large winged creature known only as a Raptor. Led by Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sachhoff) and aided by fellow Mandalorians such as Paz Vizsla (Tait Fletcher), the party proves to be a very capable force. However, Djarin is not nearly as helpful as he could have been during the pursuit and subsequent battle to prevent the Raptor from feeding the foundling to its own young.

The Darksaber Should Have Been Useful Against The Raptor

Raptor Creature in The Mandalorian season 3, episode 4.

The chief challenge with engaging the large Raptor was its ability to outfly the Mandalorians until their jetpacks ran out of fuel. This was circumvented by Bo-Katan, who pursued the creature in her Gauntlet fighter to find its nest before returning to assemble the hunting party. The following day after the journey to the nest, the Mandalorians were able to catch the Raptor by surprise before they all took the sky, using cables to try to slow down and bind the creature, who had the child in its talons.

While Din Djarin was helpful, he elected to use a small knife to strike at the creature. Even though he succeeded in freeing the child from the Raptor, it's baffling as to why the titular Mandalorian didn't use the Darksaber, something that likely would have been far more effective. Ultimately, it seems Djarin is still unfocused and likely sees himself as unworthy to wield the blade, having a conflicted nature and mindset that in turn makes the Darksaber heavier in his hands.

Who Should Wield The Darksaber Rather Than Din Djarin?

Bo-Katan Kryze with the Darksaber.

Assuming Din Djarin is unable to reconcile his possession of the Darksaber and the right to rule Mandalore, the blade should probably go to someone more capable and willing. The top contender would naturally be Bo-Katan, a former wielder of the Darksaber who was once Mandalore's regent before the Empire's purge of the world known as the Night of a Thousand Tears. Likewise, she recently bore witness to the living Mythosaur in connection with an ancient prophecy heralding a new age for Mandalore.

It just makes sense that if Djarin continues to be unwilling to wield the Darksaber and shoulder the responsibility of leadership, someone like Bo-Katan should challenge him for the blade. That being said, one would hope an experienced figure like the Armorer or Bo-Katan herself might help Din continue to train with the blade if he decides to start taking his ownership of the Darksaber more seriously in the episodes to come. It's a powerful weapon that needs to be used far more in The Mandalorian season 3 going forward.
