The Mandalorian star Katee Sackhoff explains why Bo-Katan Kryze hasn’t told anyone about seeing – and confirming the existence of – the Mythosaur. What should have been a rescue mission to save the Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) ended with Bo-Katan joining the Children of the Watch. To help Din Djarin, Bo-Katan had to enter the Living Waters of Mandalore, leading to a shocking discovery. She learned the Mythosaur, long thought extinct, still lives beneath Mandalore's surface.
Bo-Katan has thus confirmed the existence of something even Emily Swallow's Armorer believes to just be a legend, but she chose to keep it a secret. Speaking to EW, actress Katee Sackhoff explains Bo-Katan has kept the Mythosaur a secret for a simple reason. "She doesn't trust necessarily what she saw," Sackoff observes. "She might have thought that she imagined it. There's so many things that she's trying to process in her head that I don't necessarily think that it's something that she wants to tell anyone about right now." According to Sackhoff, Bo-Katan isn't plotting, not is she strategically keeping a secret; she's simply confused because her beliefs have been challenged by the Mythosaur's confirmed existence.
Why The Mythosaur Challenges Everything Bo-Katan Believes In
Bo-Katan had dismissed the Children of the Watch's beliefs as mere legends. Bo-Katan and House Kryze moved away from the Mandalorian Creed decades ago; although Bo-Katan was raised swearing the same vows as the Children of the Watch, she was much more liberal, with no issue removing her helmet. Indeed, viewers who were introduced to Mandalorians through Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels were surprised to see this more fundamentalist interpretation of the Way, taken aback because Din Djarin and his fellows would not remove their helmets.
A slight retcon that added a lot to Star Wars’ Mandalorian universe, the Children of the Watch’s beliefs brought a new type of Mandalorians to the screen – one that was quite different from Bo-Katan Kryze or Sabine Wren, for example. Still, unlike Mando, Bo-Katan never saw herself as an apostate for not following the Mandalorian Creed; those were only stories, legends. However, now that Bo-Katan has seen the Mythosaur, the seemly mythical figure from which the ancient Mandalorian Creed and the Children of the Watch’s beliefs stem, everything has changed.
Bo-Katan must now decide how much of Mandalorian lore and legends are true. If the Mythosaur itself is real, that may well validate all the Children of the Watch stand for. Bo-Katan's entire world has been shaken in The Mandalorian season 3, and she must now decide what she believes once again as a result.
