Screen Rant is excited to present an exclusive clip from the upcoming Netflix series The Lincoln Lawyer, which will premiere through the streaming platform on May 13. Based on the popular book series by Michael Connelly, who is also responsible for the beloved Bosch franchise, the new show follows an iconoclastic idealist named Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Sweet Girl) who runs a law practice out of the backseat of his Lincoln. The unorthodox attorney has already been part of a film adaptation starring Matthew McConaughey, 2011's The Lincoln Lawyer, but he's finally getting the full series treatment after over a decade of conversation.

The show takes Connelly's second Haller novel, The Brass Verdict, as its inspiration and has amassed a stellar cast to support Gracia-Rulfo on the case. Neve Campbell (the Scream franchise) plays ex-wife Maggie McPherson, Becki Newton (Ugly Betty) plays case manager Lorna Taylor, Jazz Raycole (Jericho) portrays Mickey's client Izzy, Angus Sampson (Our Flag Means Death) is PI Dennis "Cisco" Wojciechowski, and Christopher Gorham (ironically also Ugly Betty) is video game mogul Trevor Elliot.

In Screen Rant's exclusive sneak peek, provided by Netflix, Mickey is interrogating his ex-wife Maggie about recent "date" he saw her getting ready for. While she at first sidesteps the question on account of him having no right to be jealous, she eventually reveals that it was a parent-teacher conference regarding their daughter Hayley. Mickey wants to co-parent more effectively, but it seems Maggie is not quite ready for that yet. Check out the exclusive clip from The Lincoln Lawyer below:

As is evident in the above clip, Mickey Haller's personal life can be somewhat rocky. In the novels, he is divorced not once but twice - though whether his second marriage will form part of the Netflix series is too early to tell. The Lincoln Lawyer seems invested in Mickey's still-present feelings for Maggie, which are deepened by their desire to be equally involved in Hayley's life. Whether he has what it takes to juggle the pressures of a case like Tevor Elliott's and prove that he's a changed man in his domestic life will certainly make up a large part of the show's tension.

While there is sadly no crossover in the works for Mickey and his half-brother Harry Bosch, who is currently enjoying his spin-off series on Amazon Freevee, Netflix's take on the Bosch Universe makes the most of its Los Angeles locations and the tongue-in-cheek demeanor of its lead. Last month's trailer highlighted how Mickey often breaks the mold of what's expected from a lawyer while tackling high-profile cases and fighting to put his family back together.

Fans of The Lincoln Lawyer novels may rest assured that Michael Connelly himself is serving as an executive producer and writer on the series, proving to be deeply involved just as he has been on Bosch. Acclaimed producer Ted Humphrey (The Good Wife) is handling showrunner duties as well as serving as an executive producer and writer, with none other than legal drama king David E. Kelley on board. It's safe to say that Mickey Haller couldn't be in better hands.
