The Legend of Vox Machina is a massive animated success for Amazon Prime. In adapting the adventures of the long-running Dungeons & Dragons live stream Critical Role, it's captured the spirit of D&D itself. The feeling of raucous adventure and party banter is alive in the show, which is pleasing for new and old fans alike.

Vox Machina also bridges the gap between the show and the stream by having the players reprise their roles. The players are professional voice actors with incredible talent in acting, voice-over, improvisation, and more under their belts. Even without Critical Role, they have some truly famous roles viewers may know them from.

Matthew Mercer - Levi Ackerman (Attack on Titan)

Matthew Mercer and his characters Sylas and Levi

Matt Mercer is one of the most prolific voice actors working right now. He's also the chief office of Critical Role productions as its Dungeon Master. On the streams, he plays most characters, but the show has him stay in the role of Sylas Briarwood. His most prominent role is likely Levi Ackerman from the Attack on Titan series.

Attack on Titan's tragic hero Levi is one of anime's more popular characters. But Matt has plenty of other anime legends under his belt, like Jotaro Kujo from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and Hit from Dragon Ball Super. He also has plenty of gaming credits to his name. These include Chrom from Fire Emblem and Cole Cassidy from Overwatch.

Laura Bailey - Chun-Li (Street Fighter)

Lauara Bailey, her Vox Machina character Vex'ahlia and Chun-Li from Street Fighter.

Laura Bailey is one of the most senior voice-over performers on the cast. She's been working in the industry since she was 18. She brings this distinguished talent to her performance as the more responsible of two twins, Vex'ahlia, in Vox Machina. But she has plenty of more hotheaded heroines, like Street Fighter's first lady Chun-Li.

Street Fighter's mistress of kicks isn't Laura's only gaming role, though. She's also played Lucina in Fire Emblem, Rayne in BloodRayne, and Jaina from the Warcraft franchise. However, she got her start in anime, where she debuted as the voice of Kid Trunks in Dragon Ball Z. She played the leads in both Fruits Basket and Soul Eater.

Liam O'Brien - Gaara (Naruto)

Liam O'Brien, his Vox Machina character Vax'ilidan, and Gaara from Naruto.

Vax'ilidan from The Legend of Vox Machina is a cool and collected customer. This comes across well with the voice acting of anime dub veteran Liam O'Brien. He's voiced plenty of iconic characters and done tons of directing as well. His most well-known role is Naruto's rival introduced in the Chunin Exams, Gaara.

The edgy sand Ninja is one of the best performances in Naruto's dub. His cool demeanor barely masking his inner rage was a delight for fans. But he also has had plenty of other roles. such as Asura from Asura's Wrath. He's got plenty of other iconic anime under his belt as well, like Code Geass and Sailor Moon.

Taliesin Jaffe - The Flash (Injustice)

Taliesin Jaffe, his character Percy, and The Flash from Injustice.

Taliesin Jaffe is probably the most obscure member on the cast of Critical Role. But he's still an incredible talent. His role as a scriptwriter and voice director goes a bit more unsung in comparison to his co-stars but is still great. Some may be surprised to hear that Percival de Rolo shares a voice with Barry Allen, The Flash.

Specifically, the Injustice version of The Flash is voiced by Jaffe. Jaffe has a lot of credits in the fighting game space, as he's also the voice of Blanka in Street Fighter. He's had roles in Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy. He's also done some live-action work as well.

Ashley Johnson - Ellie (The Last of Us)

Ashley Johnson, her character Pike, and Ellie from The Last of Us.

Ashley Johnson might be the biggest star in terms of mainstream success, if not name recognition. Her role as the small lovable cleric Pike in Vox Machina is great but overshadowed by her biggest role. She played the biggest sidekick-turned-main-character in gaming—both in voice and motion capture—with Ellie in The Last of Us.

Ellie is one of the biggest characters in gaming from the 2010s. She was a big step forward for both women and LGBTQ+ representation in video games. Ashley's expressive acting brought the character to life. While Johnson has plenty of great other roles such as Gwen Tennyson from Ben 10 and Tulip from Infinity Train, plenty will always know her as Ellie.

Marisha Ray - Margaret (Persona)

Marisha Ray, her character Keyleth, and Margaret from Persona 4.

Marisha Ray chiefly is known for supporting roles in gaming. After all, all the characters players must meet and speak to need to be voiced by someone. The actors for "additional voices" are just as essential as anyone else's role. Speaking of supporting roles, her role as Margaret from Persona 4 is very much that, supporting the player in their adventure.

Margaret has a collected demeanor, much unlike Ray's Keyleth from Vox Machina. She's a strong person and one of the toughest optional fights in the game series. But she's had plenty of other roles as well. She's even played Stephanie Brown of Batgirl and Batwoman fame.

Sam Riegel - Phoenix Wright (Ace Attorney)

Sam Riegel, his character Scanlan, and Phoenix Wright from Ace Attorney.

Sam Riegel's The Legend of Vox Machina character Scanlan is certainly memorable. His short gnome stature combined with his extreme promiscuity makes quite an impression. Sam's most well-known character, the main character of Ace Attorney, is also memorable, though, definitely not in the same way that Scanlan is.

Sam plays the lead lawyer, but he has plenty of other notable roles. Besides serving as a voice-over director for several productions, he also played Donatello in the 2004 version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Other roles include Teddie in the Persona series and Spider-Man before. Scanlan's golden pipes certainly have made the rounds.

Travis Willingham - Knuckles the Echidna (Sonic the Hedgehog)

Travis Willigham, his character Grog, and Knuckles from Sonic Boom.

Grog the giant in The Legend of Vox Machina fits the archetype of the big strong guy who's not very smart but is kind. His voice actor Travis Willingham is no stranger to that type of character. His most famous role was as Knuckles the Echidna, whose Sonic Boom incarnation fit that archetype. Idris Elba's upcoming performance probably won't have that aspect of the character.

Willingham's hardly known for stupid characters, however. His biggest breakout role was as Colonel Roy Mustang in Fullmetal Alchemist. That's hardly a character known for his stupidity; but rather his brilliant tactical mind.
