Season 2 of Netflix’s Emmy-nominated comedy The Kominsky Method continues the story of Sandy Kominsky (Michael Douglas) and his cantankerous best friend Norman (Alan Arkin), as they embark on the latest chapter in their lives. The series from The Big Bang Theory creator Chuck Lorre premiered on Netflix in 2018 and became one of the best single-camera sitcoms on the streaming service. It also netted Lorre a Golden Globe award that hopefully took the sting out of missing out on those Emmys.

A late-life story of two best friends trying to make sense of an ever-changing world and their place in it, The Kominsky Method is an unusual blend of drama and comedy — unusual for Lorre anyway — as it shies away from his usual joke-heavy style of writing to deliver something a little more substantial. That’s not to say the series doesn’t aim for laughs, it just aims for a darker kind of humor, one that constantly reminds viewers just how much getting old sucks.

The new trailer for season 2, then, puts Sandy and Norman in some new situations. For Sandy, he’s trying to come to grips with his daughter Mindy (Sarah Baker) dating a man who’s just a bit older than she is. In fact, that guy happens to be Paul Reiser, who unfortunately has a lot in common with his girlfriend’s father. Meanwhile, Norman gets reacquainted with an old flame played by none other than Jane Seymour. Check out the full trailer for The Kominsky Method season 2 below:

The new season seems as though it’s going to try and inject more of the Lorre brand of humor into the storyline, as the trailer features more obvious jokes in two minutes than the first season  had in eight episodes. That may work out in the show’s favor as both Douglas and Arkin have a knack for delivering Lorre’s kind of dialogue. Besides, as two grumpy old men trying to get some joy out of their twilight years, it’s hard to pass these two up.

With several series on Netflix having already reached their conclusion (timely or otherwise), having an award-friendly series like The Kominsky Method is likely a blessing for the streaming giant. As new streaming services get set to launch in November, Netflix may be relying on returning favorites like this to keep subscribers’ interest.
