A Euphoria cameo in The Idol episode 1 has fans certain the two shows are set in the same universe. Son of the Academy Award-winning director Barry Levinson, Sam Levinson burst onto the scene by creating the HBO teen drama Euphoria, which stars the Emmy-winning Zendaya as a recovering drug addict. In between seasons of Euphoria, Levinson co-created another relentlessly explicit HBO show, The Idol, which stars Lily Rose-Depp as a pop star named Jocelyn who develops a complex relationship with a cult leader and nightclub owner played by The Weeknd.Premiered June 4 on HBO, The Idol episode 1 features a cameo from Alexa Demie, who plays Maddy Perez in Euphoria, as she is seen dancing in a nightclub with Jocelyn and her posse, including Jennie Ruby Jane as Dyanne. Though the cameo is quick, it has fans convinced that the two HBO shows created by Levinson are set in the same universe. Check out a few of the reactions to the cameo below:

Are The Idol & Euphoria Set In The Same Universe?

The-Idol-Euphoria

At the Cannes Film Festival, where his new show premiered its first two episodes, Levinson previously confirmed that Euphoria and The Idol are set in “the same universe" and that Demie would be making a cameo, according to PopCrave. Though Demie is credited as “club girl number two," in The Idol, the creator's comment confirms she is actually reprising her role as Maddy. However, with no lines of dialogue for Demie during her blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance, the Euphoria cameo certainly leaves a lot to be desired.

Since The Idol and Euphoria exist in the same universe, it will be interesting to see if Maddy hanging out with a world-famous pop star is something that is mentioned or factors into the upcoming Euphoria season 3 story, which is expected to see a time jump. However, it's possible that Demie's cameo in The Idol was nothing more than just an Easter egg for Euphoria fans. Hopefully, more will become apparent as The Idol airs new episodes every Sunday night on HBO and Max.
