In the Hunger Games, much like any other movie that is an adaptation from a book, there is always going to be a risk that each character doesn't look exactly as they are described. Sometimes, it is simply a case of not being able to have things exact, such as an actor's eye color, but other times there are bigger alterations and changes made.

Whenever there is a change or alteration, hardcore fans of a franchise will always pick up on them, and that has certainly been the case with The Hunger Games movies. While the movies certainly tell the story in an engaging manner, there are certain characters that simply do not look right.

Haymitch Abernathy

The Hunger Games Haymitch Abernathy

Haymitch Abernathy is one of the most fun characters within the movie, mainly because of the depth that is actually in him and his personal storyline. However, he doesn't look quite as disheveled as he's written in the book, although the movies did manage to portray his issues with alcohol well.

The eye color is something that was off within the movies as well, as he is actually meant to have grey eyes, yet in the movies they are blue. But the biggest difference comes from the hair, as it is actually the wrong color, as in the books it is described as dark and curly, yet in the movies, it is actually blonde and typically, very straight. They're not things that most people would notice, but big fans who know the books well certainly pick up on them.

Johanna Mason

Johanna Mason

Much like Haymitch, one of the big differences between the book version and the movie version of Johanna Mason is her hair. However, the differences were even bigger and more obvious within this character, and are something that many fans felt could have been done correctly.

Johanna is supposed to have spikey hair, as is described in the books, and she is supposed to be far more muscular because of the fact she's from the lumberjack district. However, in the movies that wasn't the case, for one of the most important characters.

Thresh

Thresh

Thresh is supposed to be one of the most dominant and powerful characters, and while that is clear from his personality and actions, it isn't showcased visually. Thresh is supposed to be far taller than most other people, and that isn't really shown, for while he is tall, it isn't at the same level as the books make out.

Plus, in the books, he is supposed to have gold-colored eyes. Of course, this isn't something that anybody has in reality, but this aesthetic could easily have been achieved with contact lenses or through CGI, to keep the character as realistic as possible.

Enobaria

Enobaria

Speaking of the color gold, Enobaria is another character who would have benefitted from this color being added to her aesthetic. She's one of the more ruthless and dangerous characters in this story, attacking people's throats with her sharp teeth, which are said to be like razors.

She wasn't shown to be quite as scary as she comes across in the books, and while her sharp teeth are certainly part of her look, they're not gold-plated, as they're described in the book. Adding this little detail would certainly have enhanced her character.

Primrose Everdeen

Primrose

Primrose Everdeen is obviously one of the most important characters within the story, and within the movie, she is certainly given that respect. However, there are a few subtle differences in terms of her appearance that make her not look quite right.

Primrose is supposed to be far smaller and thinner, due to the difficult poverty that she has to deal with. Another big alteration is with the Mockingjay pin that she wears. Her sister provides that for her, but in the book, that doesn't happen, as it is actually Madge Undersee who is given it, as a good luck charm from Katniss.

The Mutated Tributes

Muttations

The Mutated Tributes are supposed to be some of the scariest elements of The Hunger Games, they're meant to be over the top, wolf-like and incredibly scary. However, when they appear on-screen, they appear more like big bulldogs.

While they are still quite scary, simply due to the barking and attempted biting, they're nowhere near as scary as they are in the books. There's no hair and their fangs aren't quite as scary, which is a shame as this was a missed opportunity.

Mags

Mags smiles in Catching Fire

Mags is one of the most memorable characters from The Hunger Games franchise, and she is someone who people look up to. In the movie, Mags is seen as quite a sweet, elderly lady and while her age is the big factor in the character, she's not quite as haggard in the movie as the book.

One big difference is that in the book, she's described as being toothless, and her older features are a little more clear. However, that's not the case, with the movie giving a more polished version of Mags to the world.

Caesar Flickerman

Caesar Flickerman is the big television personality of the movie, and because of that, he's given an over the top look to follow that as he is one of the big stars of the Capitol. He tends to wear a lot of makeup and comes across as quite tanned, and while it certainly does suit his character, it doesn't actually work in terms of following on the book.

In the book, he actually tends to dress in a less over the top fashion, and blends in more than he stands out. Plus, while he wears a lot of makeup, that is normally described as a lot of white makeup, which is different from the movie version. However, this is a change that actually does seem to help his character.

President Snow

Hunger Games President Snow

The major villain of The Hunger Games franchise is obviously a very important character in the movies, and the movie version certainly is very enjoyable and well put together. However, aesthetically, there are some big differences from how he's presented in the book.

The character in the books is really supposed to look in a manner that is similar to his behavior. He's supposed to be far thinner, having snake-like features within his eyes and mouth. However, in the movies, he's portrayed a lot more prim and proper. It did work well and suited his confident approach, but following the book, the presentation could have been scarier.

Peeta

Peeta

The biggest example of a character simply not looking right in this movie was Peeta. The changes that were made for him in this movie against the book were ones that did anger fans, and that's because, in the book, he actually loses a leg, which doesn't happen in the movies.

It's obviously a massive storyline in the book and something that does change his character for obvious reasons. It's unknown why this wasn't used in the movies, but it was omitted. As well as that, in the books, Peeta actually has blue eyes, which wasn't the case in the movies, as he had brown eyes.
