Lo Bosworth recently revealed why she’ll never return to the The Hills. After being off the air for almost ten years, the MTV series was rebooted in 2019, featuring many but not all of the previous cast. Spencer Pratt, Heidi Montag, Stephanie Pratt, Audrina Patridge and Brody Jenner came back to film for the new show, titled The Hills: New Beginnings. Lo, Lauren Conrad and Kristen Cavallari chose not to return.

Lauren turned down the offer because she felt she was in a completely different place in her journey. During the first go-around, Lauren saw the destruction of her friendship with Heidi, who revealed sensitive information to Spencer, who was her boyfriend at the time (now husband). For years, the entire cast was determined to bring them back to the friendship they once had. In the series finale in 2010, Lauren made an appearance at Spencer and Heidi’s wedding, leading viewers to believe that Lauren and Heidi’s feud would end (Spoiler alert: it didn’t).

Lo, a cast member from the original series, recently explained to Hollywood Life that she’ll never consider returning to show, despite the other cast members’ choices. Reality television was not a space that made her feel comfortable, she said. She prefers to have a normal life with a normal job, because this gives her more security. Her career in reality TV felt neither stable nor reliable, and when she started working in that field, she was only 17 years old. At the time, she wasn’t ready for all the pressure in the public eye. Lo described this as a negative experience.

Despite Lo’s unpleasant feelings about the show, she also told Hollywood Life that her time on television made her the person she is today, and gave her the window of opportunity to achieve success. She is now the owner of a women’s wellness business, Love Wellness, which provides total body care in order to help women’s lives. Lo thinks she “did [her] best” when working on the show, and she’ll always appreciate the platform it provided her. But at the same time, she believes only some personalities can survive in that environment.

No one knows if The Hills: New Beginnings will be renewed for season 3. Spencer recently said that he doesn’t think the show will come back, and he expressed sadness in hearing what some of his cast mates said about him during their confessional interviews. In the last season of the show, Spencer and Heidi were at odds with some of their friends. Heidi tried to manifest good energy as she faced the herd of naysayers. Perhaps a secret part of her can identify with Lo.
