Jason is probably the most underrated of The Good Place's cockroaches - he's often seen as just being comic relief, but this DJ from Florida is so much more than that. Sure, he's not necessarily the smartest of the bunch, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't still have a lot to offer!

In fact, Jason has a whole bunch of life lessons for fans of The Good Place to take in - and to bring a little more of that classic Jason confidence and innocence to their own lives. Just, maybe... pay a little more attention that he does, and commit fewer actual crimes!

When In Doubt, Stay Silent

The Good Place Ted Danson Manny Jacinto

When fans first meet Jason, he is presumed to be a silent monk - and although he definitely knows that that is not the case, he decides to just kind of... run with it, until he figures out what to do. It may seem like a bad idea to take on in your own life (and we're certainly not suggesting that a well-timed question or two is a bad idea), but this is a surprisingly wise move to make. Instead of running in, all guns blazing (or all Molotov cocktails!) Jason sits back, takes a beat, and stays quiet until he knows that he has something worthwhile and helpful to say - and knows who to say it to!

A Compliment Is In How You Take It

Jason's friends routinely say things to him that really aren't compliments, and more often than not, are comments on his cluelessness, and yet he always says 'thank you' with a big smile. The lesson here? Not that ignorance is bliss (although it might be!), but that the things people say to us are only insults if that's how we take them. Instead of getting upset, just channel that inner Jason and say 'thank you' with a smile!

Find Joy In The Little Things

If there is one thing that Jason is always excellent at, it is finding great joy in the little things - and we mean the really little things! He still loves toys, and shiny objects, and had no problems with expressing his enthusiasm when he sees something amazing. And this is an amazing thing to watch - rather than being a jaded criminal, Jason is all smiles and ready to enjoy life, and feels absolutely no shame in wanting to do something 'childish' or 'weird'. If he enjoys it, everyone knows!

Just Go With It

A lot of the time, Jason doesn't really know what's going on with his life, or the plan, or... well, with anything. But when he trusts the people that he's around (or just trusts that everything is going to work out, no matter what) he is able to relax and go with the flow.

Rather than getting anxious and worked up like Chidi, Jason just lets it all go, sits back, and sees what is going to happen. And while a little planning is a good thing, it's not a bad thing to let go of the reins and go with the flow when things are out of your control.

Think Things Through

Unlike most of the lessons on this list, this is something that viewers learned from Jason because they learned exactly what NOT to do from him - which is never think things through. In fact, Jason died because of his inability to think through what would happen if he was locked in a safe... oops! This is a chance to make sure you don't pull a Jason, and take a little time to think through any big plans before carrying them out (and hopefully not making those plans a robbery).

Follow Your Heart

Jason and Janet's wedding.

The love between Jason and Janet was one of the most adorable romantic stories in The Good Place, and there's a lot to learn from it. For one thing, Jason never considers why the relationship would or wouldn't work, or spends time second guessing his feelings or what is happening. He simply knows that he loves Janet, and then tells her that. That's it - the whole thing. And when he knew he loved her, he asked her to marry him - the fact that she was an incredibly powerful immortal walking database, not a girl, didn't stop him for a second. Jason just loves who he loves, and the simplicity and faith of that is incredible.

Don't Overthink Things

Along with his love story with Janet, Jason has a wonderful ability to not overthink things. For those fans who are more on the Chidi end of the anxiety scale, this might be hard to emulate, but Jason is a great example of someone who truly lives in the moment.

He doesn't worry himself over his future with Janet, he loves her, so he marries her. He doesn't stress out about what's coming down the line, he just deals with what is in front of him, in the simplest ways possible - and it's not only endearing, but seems to be a remarkably stress-free way to live!

Encourage Other People To Join In

From his schemes to his ridiculously large dance crew back in Florida, Jason is a joiner, and he loves to encourage other people to join in the fun, too. For people less outgoing, this might be difficult, but one of the most endearing things about Jason is his enthusiasm, and his willingness to bring everyone else along for the ride.

Love Your Friends With All Your Heart

Along with his love of getting people involved, Jason is a great example of someone who knows how to love his friends. While Eleanor would happily throw a friend under the bus for concert tickets, Jason truly put his friends (and his dad/friend) first, and would never betray them. Later, when he becomes part of the cockroaches, it's clear that he would do anything for these friends, too. He may not be the brightest guy, but he's certainly one of the most loyal, and that's one of the most endearing things about him.

Take Some Time For Reflection And Patience

In the end, Jason actually manages to become a little bit of the monk that he was originally forced to pretend to be in the first season. While waiting for Janet, Jason spends a vast, impressive amount of time simply wandering in the woods, enjoying the sunlight, the sounds of nature, and the things around him. He was utterly, heartbreakingly patient, and it was beautiful to see. And while most fans can't simply wander the woods for a few hundred years, we can all take a little time to get into nature, be a little bit mindful, and just patiently reflect and relax for a minute.
