Director and producer James Wan is now set to produce a TV series adaptation of The Good Asian. The Eisner Award-winning noir comic miniseries, by writer Pornsak Pichetshote and artist Alexandre Tefenkgi, debuted in May 2021. It follows a Chinese-American detective named Edison Hark who is on the trail of a killer in San Francisco Chinatown in the 1930s.

Per ComicBook, Wan is producing a series adapted from The Good Asian via his company Atomic Monster. The company will be partnering with 3 Arts for the series. This will be Wan's first comic adaptation outside of the realm of DC after the release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

James Wan Has Proven His Ability to Conquer Any Genre

Wan has already shown his chops at bringing a comic book to life in his 2018 film Aquaman, which remains the highest-grossing film in the DC Universe. The reason he got that job in the first place was his proven track record with blockbuster tentpoles. He had previously helmed 2015's Furious 7, also an enormous hit.

However, Wan has proven his facility at making films that are both critically and commercially well-received across all kinds of genres. In addition to his ability to jump onto established franchises, he has also proven to be a dab hand at creating franchises, especially in the horror genre. The long-running horror franchises Saw, The Conjuring, and Insidious all had their original entries directed by Wan.

He hasn't given up this streak as a producer either, as his recent outing M3GAN already has a sequel in the works. Proving his facility in yet another genre and medium, Wan has also executive produced the 2016 MacGyver reboot, which went on to run for five seasons. Given this track record, The Good Asian could very well be the next big hit in comic book television when it finally arrives.
