Next week’s episode of The Gifted will explore the backstory of Jace Turner, the Sentinel Services agent tasked with capturing the Strucker family and the mutant underground. A promo for the episode suggests that the hunt for the mutants is about to reach a new level of intensity.

On last night’s episode of The Gifted, titled “eXit strategy”, Eclipse (Sean Teale) used his connections to a cartel to gain information that would help the mutant underground rescue Reed (Stephen Moyer) and Polaris (Emma Dumont). Reed’s children, Lauren (Natalie Alyn Lind) and Andy (Percy Hynes White) used their powers to help the mutants attack the convoy transporting Reed and Polaris. Their plan was nearly thwarted by Pulse (Zach Roerig), a mutant with the ability to nullify powers who was once friends with Thunderbird (Blair Redford.) However, despite a number of setbacks, the plan was a success.

Infuriated, Jace (Coby Bell) was powerless to stop the mutants from escaping after their guns were taken away by Polaris. The promo for next week’s episode, “boXed in”, indicates that we will learn more about Jace’s past as the character remains determined to find the mutant underground. The X-Men are name-dropped once again as Dreamer (Elena Satine) talks about their warning that “a war is coming.” The promo also previews more fighting between the mutants and the Sentinel Services, as Jace promises, “we are going to hunt them down.”

Coby Bell in The Gifted The Gifted boXed in Preview: Nobody Has To Die

FOX has released a synopsis for the episode:

Motivated by a tragic event from his past, Jace throws all the power of the Sentinel Services into finding the Mutant Underground Way Station. Meanwhile, Blink’s vivid dreams lead her to confront Dreamer (guest star Elena Satine) in the all-new “boXed in” episode of THE GIFTED airing Monday, Oct. 30 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

During an interview at New York Comic Con 2017, Coby Bell revealed that The Gifted episode 5 will explore why Jace “does what he does.” Bell explained that the episode will “look at it from the other side” to show the point of view of the Sentinel Services.

During “boXed in”, for the first time in the series viewers will see all of the main characters on the mutant side united, now that Reed and Polaris are finally free of the Sentinel Services. Since Polaris refused to accept Reed’s apology, we can expect that it will be a while before the former prosecutor is recognized as a part of their community. There may be also trouble between the mutants as well, especially if Blink discovers the truth about Dreamer’s manipulation of her memories.
