The Arrowverse is poised to complete Barry Allen's rogues' gallery in The Flash season 9. Casting announcements and details on his upcoming adventures in Central City paint a picture of what The CW has in store for Barry's final season as the Scarlet Speedster. Despite season 9 only consisting of 13 episodes, the last chapter in Barry's Arrowverse story will still offer its fair share of DC Comics villains for Team Flash to fight.

Grant Gustin's Barry Allen will have his hands full when he returns to the small screen. Based on a season 9 synopsis, he'll be going up against a new incarnation of the Arrowverse's Rogues team. One of its members may or may not be Owen Mercer's Captain Boomerang, who confirmed to be among the villains joining the show. Not only that, but Barry will also have to contend with Red Death, an evil version of Javicia Leslie's Batwoman. Plus, season 8's post-credits scene made it abundantly clear that Cobalt Blue is on his way to the series as well, potentially as the main antagonist of the season.

The Flash Season 9 Is Adding Barry's Missing Villains To The Arrowverse

Over the course of eight seasons, The Flash has gradually introduced a long list of villains associated with Barry and other versions of the superhero in the comic books. In fact, the Arrowverse's interpretation of the Flash's corner of the DC Universe already included nearly all of his major villains. On top of big names like Reverse-Flash, Gorilla Grodd, and the Thinker, it boasted a varied lineup of DC's Rogues, including Mirror Master, Captain Cold, and more. And with Cobalt Blue, Captain Boomerang, and Red Death all showing up, The Flash won't have anyone still in need of a live-action debut.

The characters being introduced in The Flash season 9 are by far the show's most noteworthy omissions to date. There was, of course, a Captain Boomerang in the Arrowverse before season 9, but that character was utilized primarily as an enemy of Green Arrow. The introduction of a second version in season 9 suggests the Arrowverse is primed to deliver a proper take on the character, one who fights the Flash. In addition to Captain Boomerang, Red Death and Cobalt Blue also stand out as memorable antagonists from the comics that The Flash hasn't made use of yet.

The Flash Season 9 Could Have Even More Villains

Given that the aforementioned synopsis teased an entire team of Rogues, chances are The Flash will have even more DC Comics villains than the three who have already been promised. Some could be new, post-Crisis versions of pre-existing villains Barry previously fought, like Girder or Golden Glider. Packing them all into one season may prove challenging, but putting several on one team indicates they'll be part of a stream-lined story, as opposed to the show giving individual arcs to each one. Either way, it looks like The Flash will get to end with a complete rogues' gallery for its titular hero.
