Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first official The Flash movie trailer during this year's Super Bowl. After being cast as Barry Allen in 2014, it has taken nearly a decade for Ezra Miller's The Flash film to come out. The project has gone through numerous stages of development as it has gained and lost multiple directors. It wasn't until Andy Muschietti boarded the DCEU installment that Barry's solo adventure started to go somewhere. Loosely based on the comics storyline Flashpoint, The Flash will explore Barry accidentally tapping into the multiverse. While initially trying to go back in time to save his mother from her gruesome death, The Flash instead arrives in an alternative reality.
As promised by the studio itself, Warner Bros. Pictures debuted the first official The Flash trailer for the multiverse-centric DCEU movie during the Super Bowl. Check it out below:
While it may have taken almost a decade, The Flash movie is officially arriving in theaters this summer. This is the first piece of footage to be released since the sizzle reel from DC Fandome 2021.
Everything Revealed In The Flash Movie Trailer
Given how long the wait was for the latest footage, The Flash movie trailer does give a preview for a lot of elements in the film. One of the biggest takeaways is a full-on reveal of Michael Keaton as Batman. It marks the first time since Batman Returns that the actor is back in the role. Along with Ben Affleck's Batman, both versions of the Dark Knight are shown taking part in major action beats of The Flash. Sasha Calle's Supergirl is also explored, while confirming this take on the Girl of Steel will still indeed be Kara.
The Flash movie trailer also reveals a lot more about how Man of Steel's General Zod and Faora come back into play. Because of Barry's actions, the universe has been reshaped, including the erasure of Henry Cavill's Superman. Also established in the footage is the bond between Barry and his doppelganger, as they will have to fight together in order to restore balance. Barry mentions that if he can't get back, "there may not be a future," which hints at the DCU reset that is on its way.
Based on all the major action pieces, the heavy VFX work, and the overall story, The Flash looks extremely promising. This is probably another reason the DCEU film had to be pushed back, as there were a significant amount of VFX shots that had to be completed in post-production. Time will tell how The Flash movie performs, especially given Miller's legal controversies over the past year. With only a few months left to go, The Flash movie will truly be the beginning of the end of the current DCEU.
