An upgrade to The Division 2 is coming to the two next-gen consoles, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, next week, according to a Ubisoft Community Developer. Ubisoft confirmed that it would be supporting the next-gen consoles back in December 2020, when the company committed to updating its live games such as Rainbow Six Siege. However, The Division 2 has not yet received such an update from Ubisoft.
The Division 2 originally released in March, 2019 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows. When the next-gen consoles launched in November 2020, The Division 2 also became available for the new consoles but were not optimized for them. For instance, The Division 2 featured 30 FPS on PS4 and Xbox One and did not have the capability for 4K resolution on PS4. Gamers who bought the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X were understandably frustrated by these suboptimal performances on their consoles with much higher processing capabilities. That should all be changing next week.
According to the Twitter posting of JohanLnh, Ubisoft's Title Update 12.1 will be released on February 2, 2020. The update will include improvements to The Division 2 including bringing 4K resolution and 60 FPS graphics to both the PS5 and Xbox Series X. For Xbox Series X, it is unclear whether players will also receive these same frame rate and resolution boosts, but the update will still provide a boost to both of some kind.
In addition, Title Update 12.1 will also include some rebalancing to the Optimization Station. This was a feature from The Division that was not carried over to The Division 2 until Title Update 12. The Optimization Station allowed players to improve their gear and max out their desired stats. Title Update 12.1 will also mark the beginning of the two-week event to celebrate Resident Evil's 25th anniversary. During the event, players will be able to earn a three-piece Leon Kennedy Racoon Police Department uniform for their character in The Division 2. Players who log in during this event will also have the opportunity to earn other special weapons and items.
With all of this content going live next week, the timing couldn't be more perfect for Ubisoft to be patching The Division 2's performance on next-gen consoles. Xbox Series X and PS5 players are sure to be in for a nice surprise when they log-in next week, expecting only to earn rewards for their The Division 2 character but also being rewarded with improved graphics and performance. Hopefully, Ubisoft will continue to provide support and updates not only to the next-gen consoles but to The Division 2 as it enters the third year of its lifecycle.
