The Boys season 3 reinstated The Deep in the Seven, but his disgusting Herogasm scene in episode 6 is made even worse in episode 7. Despite being back in the Seven, The Deep is living in fear of Homelander and under the thumb of the Church of the Collective’s rehabilitation plan for him. He’s never been the hero the public has made him out to be, and The Boys season 3 has reaffirmed that.

The Boys has always been a gruesome series. Violent action and kills, as well as disgusting — and often disturbing — moments are a big part of the show’s storytelling. So when The Boys season 3 finally gave its audience a look at Herogasm, a superhero orgy that happens once a year, it went all out. Love Sausage’s excessively long penis was pointed at M.M. and Starlight, M.M. was sprayed with semen, and there was an abundance of nudity and graphic sex everywhere. The event was teased as being shocking and obscene, perhaps one of the most graphic depictions to ever exist on mainstream television. While Herogasm wasn’t nearly as bad as expected, The Deep had one of episode 6’s more grotesque scenes: Starlight caught him having sex with an octopus.

With The Boys, things always get worse before they get better. Having sex with an octopus, whose name is Ambrosia, wasn’t weird and revolting enough. In The Boys season 3, episode 7, The Deep took things a step further by asking his wife Cassandra to engage in a threesome with Ambrosia the octopus. The Deep believed the threesome could make their stale and seemingly non-existent sex life better, but it only turned Cassandra off. The Deep was ultimately doing it for himself (he’s long had an attraction to sea creatures), but it makes the initial Herogasm scene seem tame and less ludicrous in hindsight. The Deep suggesting a threesome with an octopus and his wife overshadows the Herogasm scene, turning an unsavory moment into a far more unsettling affair. The octopus sex was so unsettling that it even pushed things too far for Amazon, which has a policy against bestiality.

The Deep's Bestiality Scene Spells Trouble For Him And Cassandra

With Herogasm, it would have been easy to write off The Deep’s sex scene with the octopus as one meant to evoke a reaction from the audience. What happens at Herogasm stays at Herogasm, and having sex with an octopus certainly ranks high on the level of disgust and surprise that The Boys usually aims for. However, now that it’s been confirmed The Deep sleeping with Ambrosia isn’t a one-time, Herogasm-specific event, the second scene further develops his character and the strained relationship he has with Cassandra. Disgusting as it is, the scene in The Boys season 3, episode 7 shows how disconnected they are, their marriage a more transactional, rigid affair than it is a loving partnership.

If nothing else, The Deep including Ambrosia pushes the couple to lash out, revealing the vulnerable state of their relationship, as well as The Deep’s pension for receiving pleasure (sexual or otherwise) from sea creatures over people. In The Boys season 2, The Deep flirted with a dolphin that he tried to rescue before the mammal flew out of the windshield. Herogasm ultimately showed fans yet another side to The Deep, one that makes his character even more irksome somehow. And while The Boys season 3 has included a number of wild, uneasy, and horrific moments, The Deep's two sex scenes with the octopus may be the season's most memorable and, simultaneously, its most creepy and weird.

The Boys Is Punishing The Deep For His Season 1 Sexual Assault

The Deep has definitively faced some major abuse in The Boys. From being forced to eat an octopus by Homelander to having his gills assaulted, around every corner is a new punishment for The Deep. However, it seems like the character is ultimately receiving payback for his sexual assault against Starlight in season 1. With how much hardship and degradation The Deep faces, it seems like The Boys is sending a message — and that message is that there is payback for sexual assault.

Having sex with an octopus multiple times is surely the character's new low, especially considering The Boys' Herogasm wasn't just a one-off for the character. His latest exploit is a particularly disgusting one, and it irreversibly paints The Deep in a whole new light. While this systematic degradation has been opening the audience's eyes to the depraved nature of the hero, he's technically never been doing better in-universe. Thanks to his groveling at Homelander's feet, The Deep's status has never been better in The Seven, and despite this disgusting display, the character is getting off scot-free.
