While The Crown's cast has been praised for their nuanced performances, it's important to remember that the characters they play were and are real people. The members of the British Royal family have had a connection with astrology and horoscopes thanks to the Queen's feisty sister, Princess Margaret.

The Royal family is huge and has several branches in its family tree, the main characters that appear on The Crown include the Queen herself, Prince Philip, her family, and some of her advisors. A surprising number of Cancers and Leos make up the glamorous ménage, though their traits don't always match the celestial bodies under which they were born.

Queen Elizabeth II: Taurus

Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth in The Crown Season 4

Queen Elizabeth II celebrates two birthdays, which may get a bit confusing, but the aging monarch was actually born on 21st April, 1926. Her sun sign is Taurus, which adds up for the Queen. These cosmic oxen love fine things, comfort, luxury, and they recognize the true value of money.

Resilience and hard work are a big part of the Taurus personality, and the sprightly matriarch definitely embodies this with her active social engagements. The sign prioritizes consistency and reliability, which can be seen in Queen Elizabeth's duty towards her nations.

Prince Philip: Gemini

Matt Smith as Philip, and Tobias Menzies as Philip in The Crown.

The Queen's husband, first played by Matt Smith then Tobias Menzies, was the handsome Prince Philip. The actual prince was born on 10th June 1921 and passed away in 2021. Philip was a Gemini to the core, especially with his early social engagements at various gentlemen's clubs and his many pursuits like flying and finding the true meaning of life.

He had a progressive vision for the Royal family which included telecasting their lives on TV, but he didn't have much authority to do so. He had a way with words, and his duality with regard to his changed behavior with his wife in the later seasons is very Gemini-like.

Princess Margaret: Leo

As remembered by Town & CountryPrincess Margaret's birth gave huge impetus to the institution that is modern astrology. When she was born on 21st August, 1930, R.H. Naylor was commissioned by The Sunday Express to make an astrological prediction about the young princess' life, which started a rage amongst the public about horoscopes.

It makes total sense that the limelight-loving Margaret was a Leo; she wanted the throne, she loved attention, and she ended up being the center of attention no matter what she did—case in point being her state dinner with Lyndon B. Johnson. The saddest thing to happen to Margaret on The Crown was that she couldn't get what she wanted most.

Prince Charles: Scorpio

The initially meek Charles understood his power and passion in all the wrong ways in the later season of The Crown, as was evident by his behavior with Diana. Born on 14th November, 1948, the next-in-line for the throne was emotional and calculating like the astrological Scorpio, and his words could sting when he wanted them to.

On a day where he felt fulfilled, Charles built up the trust of the Welsh and honored them in one of the best episodes of The Crown, but, when he was angry, he would tear down everyone around him—especially his wife.

Princess Diana: Cancer

The altruistic Diana was born on 1st July, 1961, and it makes so much sense that the gentle yet strong lady was a Cancer. Cancerians are known for their ability to provide acts of service and care to those around them, and Diana was engaged in countless acts of charity through her short life.

Empathy, compassion, and kindness radiated through her, which are also traits associated with the water sign. Her bold projection of her emotions, her struggles with mental illness, and her constant attempts to eradicate stigma around taboo topics like HIV also add up with her star sign, making her the best character in season 4 of The Crown.

Princess Anne: Leo

The quick-tempered sibling to Charles was born a Leo, on 15th August, 1950. She, too, liked being lauded and spoken of, which is why Anne took part in the Olympics and other sporting activities with an audience. When she felt that Diana was making her look bad, the Leo was instantly jealous to have to share her fame with someone else.

Her drama-filled relationship was also characteristic of her zodiac sign, and Anne's pride often bordered on hubris in true Leo fashion. Shows like The Crown can't show every facet about the British royalty, but audiences can glean a fair amount from them.

Lord Mountbatten: Cancer

Lord Mountbatten was a distant cousin of Queen Elizabeth II's, and an uncle and dear mentor to Prince Charles. He was born early, on 25th June 1900, and he lived until 79 when he was assassinated by a bomb in his boat. Mountbatten was not very Cancer-like at first glance, but the cosmic crustaceans tend to appear distant until one gets to know them and their genuine, warm personalities.

He did love Charles a lot, and he gave him the best advice that he could as his confidante. He protected himself and his own when he could, but even that couldn't prevent his untimely demise.

Margaret Thatcher: Libra

The Iron Lady came to be on 13th October, 1925 as a humble grocer's daughter, but she went on to become the first female Prime Minister of UK. Libras love launching new initiatives, and Thatcher did exactly that, even if a few backfired during her reign as Prime Minister.

Her partnership with Dennis Thatcher was her main pillar of support, a quality that Librans are known to embody. They need a well-matched companion to keep them on the right track, and Thatcher's determination for balance and harmony also matched her zodiac perfectly.
