The Conners season 6 has been renewed by ABC, though the network has pulled the plug on other shows. Upfronts, in which networks and media companies present their upcoming schedules and programs to advertisers, are well underway. Along with that, decisions have to be made about which shows to cancel and which others to keep. ABC has already canceled Big Sky, The Company You Keep, and Alaska Daily. The three shows were all fronted by notable actors like Jensen Ackles, Milo Ventimiglia, and Hilary Swank.

But, as confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, ABC has renewed The Conners for season 6. The spinoff of Roseanne is one of eight shows that ABC has renewed. With the exception of the Gina Rodriguez dramedy Not Dead Yet, which is coming back for season 2, all the other renewed series are reality-based or game shows like American Idol and Wheel of Fortune. The network has yet to make a decision on Home Economics and The Rookie: Feds.

Will The Conners End With Season 6?

In the past few years, renewing the sitcom has taken some time. This is because the main actors on The Conners do not have standard long-term contracts. As a result of how the spinoff came together in the aftermath of Roseanne Barr being fired from the revival, the contracts of cast members like Sara Gilbert, John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, and Lecy Goranson are signed on a yearly basis and have to be renegotiated. It was expected that The Conners season 6 would happen, with the delay not being a worrying sign.

Still, executive producer Bruce Helford has talked about The Conners ending with season 6. Helford was speaking in the context of the ongoing WGA strike for fair wages, and how many episodes the next installment might have. But even among fans, there has been discussion about whether the dysfunctional family comedy is nearing its natural end.

The reasons for The Conners potentially ending with season 6 have to do with how characters like Darlene and Jackie already have their happy ending, with newer characters such as Harris potentially leading their own spinoff. But, at least for the moment, audiences are guaranteed another round with the popular Roseanne spinoff.
