A video game adaptation of The Boys has possibly been teased. Amazon Prime's adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's comic book premiered in July 2019, and while its freshman run did perform quite well, it was actually the show's second season that cemented its standing as a top-rated subversive entertainer, despite some criticism against The Boys' weekly release schedule. Season 3 of the Karl Urban and Antony Starr-led show was ordered even before the season 2 premiere, and it's expected to continue the series' streak of success once it releases later this year.

With the stakes of the series so high, Amazon Prime is already reaching out to expand the franchise, in full hopes that the show will spawn more properties that recreate its success. In season 2, the streaming service gave The Boys its own after-show, hosted by Aisha Tyler, and as of September 2020, it has also ordered a G-Men college spin-off for the series, described as part-Hunger Games and part-high-school drama. Now it appears The Boys is looking to grow its universe even further, this time not with another TV show but via the medium of video games.

On Monday, The Boys official handle posted a rather cryptic message to Twitter, asking fans what do think would a video game based on the show would look like. Of course, the tweet could have just been an attempt to capture viewers' interest and reignite conversations about the show. But this certainly hasn't stopped fans from speculating the arrival of a The Boys-centered video game. Again, there was no explicit mention about the arrival of a game, but since The Boys has a reputation for its enigmatic, twisty teasers, it can certainly be a possibility down the road. Take a look at the tweet below:

As can be seen with the success of Netflix’s massively well-received shows The Witcher and Castlevania, it’s an undisputed fact that video games have become the new, hot focus for TV adaptations. But while video games do make great TV shows, the vice-versa can also be true, as some hit series have managed to transform into the video game format with varying degrees of success. Shows like Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead have inspired not one, but a series of video games. The Office and iCarly have also had one-off game adaptations, both of which have been fairly successful. It wouldn’t be really surprising if The Boys ends up going the gaming way as well, as, after all, its brutal premise and comics background has always been ripe for an intense gaming experience.

It's true that there is no confirmation about The Boys video game actually being in development. But, at the same time, it's also true that Amazon is taking a keen interest in the series, as, after all, The Boys is one of the most successful shows on its platform. So if the idea of a video game has been flung, it certainly wouldn't have been without some reason or conversation. Maybe at this point, Amazon just wants to know if there is a definite interest in a possible video game. Maybe the tweet's meant to accumulate fans opinion so that Amazon can plan its strategy for expanding The Boys franchise accordingly. If that is the case, then there is a clear answer in the replies, and that is fans would love to play an open world The Boys video game. Even if Amazon wasn't thinking about it before, it could possibly be contemplating bringing this idea to fruition.
