Though The Boys might look like just another superhero show on the surface, it is a darkly comedic take on the genre filled with buckets of blood and plenty of bad behavior. With such a gruesomely violent show, one would think that there is little time for any friendships to actually take place, but that is actually a big part of the show.

So many of these characters are lonely or outcasts and seek out companions in sometimes unexpected places. Some of these relationships involved enemies becoming allies, some make flawed people more humane, and some are just dangerously unhealthy relationships.

Hughie And Butcher

Hughie and Butcher meet in the very first episode and it is immediately clear that these two are very different people. Hughie has a very hard time standing up for himself and expressing his frustrations, even when his girlfriend is killed by a "supe."

Butcher, on the other hand, is very blunt and seems to say whatever dark thought comes to mind. In the beginning, Hughie seems like a lost puppy Butcher is dragging around for his own needs. But over time, Butcher realizes he needs Hughie and Hughie comes to terms with Butcher's more negative traits.

Annie And Hughie

At the same time that the audience is getting to know Hughie and witness him being exposed to the truth of the superheroes in the world, there is also the story of Annie. She is a small-town hero known as Starlight who is recruited as the newest member of The Seven.

As Annie also begins to see the truth of the heroes as well, she happens to meet Hughie. It is a very coincidental meeting and they quickly form an unexpected bond. Though there are plenty of lies in their relationship, they end up making a very charming pair.

Frenchie And Mother's Milk

While "The Boys" existed before Hughie came along, they had a rather nasty falling out and there are still plenty of unresolved issues among the former members. In fact, when Butcher comes to recruit Mother's Milk back into the group, he refuses if Frenchie is still with them.

The feud between these two is so bad that they get into a fight immediately upon seeing each other and Mother's Milk insists he doesn't trust Frenchie anymore. However, this hostility sort of just evaporates and the two men work closely together with no real issues.

The Deep And A-Train

In many ways, The Deep and A-Train should have been good friends. Not only are they both members of The Seven, but they are also the two least respected members. In fact, by season 2, both of these supes find themselves kicked out of the group which is where their friendship begins.

This is not really a friendship based on anything positive. It is just that they both feel rejected and try to ride each other's coattails back to success.

Butcher And Annie

When Annie starts to see how even the Vought Corporation really is, she decides to do everything she can to bring them down. This means she reluctantly has to join forces with Butcher and these two do not see eye-to-eye.

Annie hates Butcher's lack of empathy and willingness to kill while Butcher just hates supes in general. However, their common link is Hughie who both of them care deeply about and they bond over their desire to keep him safe.

Butcher And Ryan

Once again, Butcher's hatred for supes is pretty much his driving force in the show. It is so intense that he even sees his wife's supe son as expendable. While Butcher would do anything to save Becca, he thinks that Ryan will eventually turn just as evil as Homelander.

This relationship doesn't improve when Ryan accidentally kills Becca, but when he chooses Butcher over Homelander, Butcher seems to soften a little. In the end, Butcher gives Ryan the medallion Becca had given him in a touching gesture.

Lamplighter And Hughie

The former member of The Seven known as Lamplighter was mentioned previously on the show before showing up in a twist in season 2. While it was known that he killed Mallory's grandchildren, it turns out that was an accident and he is filled with remorse.

This leads to him agreeing to help "The Boys" and Hughie is tasked with babysitting him. Calling their short time together a friendship is a bit of a stretch, but considering they are on opposite sides of this battle, the fact that they sit down and watch some adult videos together is pretty shocking.

Queen Maeve And Annie

When Annie joins The Seven, it doesn't take long for her to realize that the other supes are pretty terrible people. Even after she is horribly mistreated and abused, she hopes the only other female on the team, Queen Maeve, would be someone she can talk to but Maeve is totally unsympathetic.

For quite a while, Maeve seems like a self-centered and disillusioned supe who is just going through the motions. The reality is that she is living in fear of what Homelander might do to her or her loved ones. When Maeve decides to confront those fears, she finally helps Annie and shows her the support she needs.

Frenchie And Kimiko

As soon as Frenchie meets Kimiko, he immediately forms a bond with her. But she is far less receptive to having new friends and proves to be a hard person to get to know. These two spend a lot of time together and warm to each other, but their relationship is largely flawed.

Kimiko refuses to let Frenchie get close to her at all while Frenchie admits that he is helping her partially as a way of making himself feel better. However, once they are honest and respectful with one another, their true friendship shines through.

Homelander And Stormfront

Stormfront and Homelander flirt with each right before they hunt down Kimiko in The Boys Season 2 Episode 7

While there are a lot of bad people on this show, Homelander is the most frightening and powerful villain of them all. With his sadistic nature and dangerous ego, it seems unlikely he'd let anyone get close to him.

When Stormfront joins The Seven, she quickly gets on Homelander's nerves which can be deadly. But she reveals herself to be just as corrupt and evil as he is. Together they form a very disturbing and violent super couple.
