With a sophomore season full of new characters, exciting action scenes, and exploding heads, The Boys has developed its own unique take on the superhero genre. Based on the comic book of the same name, the Amazon Prime series is a satire of the superhero genre that explores superheroes becoming corrupted by fame and carelessly using their powers in dangerous ways.

The season 2 finale left fans with many teases for what storylines may be explored in season 3, while also alluding to the possibility of new characters joining the cast. The Boys season 2 laid the foundation for another exciting season that has fans waiting in anticipation.

New Heroes Join The Seven

In the season 2 finale, The Seven lost three members. The Deep failed to rejoin the team, while Stormfront and Black Noir were left in critical condition, leaving only Homelander, Queen Maeve, Starlight, and a newly reinstated A-Train. With so many openings left to fill, season 3 will most likely introduce some new heroes and villains, to the cast.

Fan favorites from the comic book like Soldier Boy, Jack from Jupiter, and Tek Knight could all make their long-awaited appearance and fill the vacant spots in The Seven. The show could also create new characters, putting their own spin on the source material.

Butcher's Task Force

After Butcher and his team are cleared of their crimes and no longer considered fugitives, Mallory offers Butcher a job of heading up a government-funded team to keep tabs on the superheroes. However, with Hughie leaving the team and MM reuniting with his family, will the task force be comprised of new members? Or will Butcher manage to get the gang all back together again?

Regardless, season 3 is the perfect opportunity for the show to explore how Butcher and his team operate with government assistance, making them even more formidable opponents for the superheroes.

The Deep Forming His Own Superhero Team

The Boys The Deep

After spending the whole season trying to get back into The Seven under the Church of the Collective's guidance, The Deep failed to get reinstated and now finds himself with nowhere left to turn. So where does The Deep's story go from here? One option could find The Deep forming his own team as a means to boost his profile in order to rejoin The Seven.

The Deep's new team could be made up of other superhero outcasts like fellow Church of the Collective member Eagle the Archer. This development would allow for the show to explore a second superhero team as a friendly rivalry with The Seven, while also providing plenty of humor to go along with it.

Hughie And Starlight Dating

Now that Hughie is no longer a wanted fugitive and he's left the Boys, he's finally able to pursue a relationship with Starlight. The season 2 finale left the two of them in a good place with one another, leading to the assumption that season 3 will focus on Hughie and Starlight as a couple.

This would also be an interesting opportunity for the show to provide commentary on what it's like to date a celebrity, something that was teased with Queen Maeve and Elena's relationship. It would also thrust Hughie into the spotlight, an interesting development that would see him go from wanted fugitive to Starlight's boyfriend.

Homelander Vs. Queen Maeve

A major storyline that season 3 of The Boys might focus on is the battle over control of The Seven. At the end of season 2, Maeve used the footage of Homelander leaving civilians to die on a plane to blackmail him into letting Butcher and Ryan go free. In this regard, Maeve could continue to use the plane footage to control Homelander, thus taking control of The Seven away from him. However, Homelander won't allow that to happen, making for an interesting conflict between the two and resulting in a fight between superheroes.

Backstory Of The Seven

Season 2 gave fans a small history lesson on the beginning of Vought International and the formation of The Seven, teasing the potential for season 3 to offer a more in-depth look at the history of The Seven. The use of flashbacks would allow the show to explore the first members of The Seven and how Vought came to be the powerful corporation it is today.

Furthermore, it would be fascinating to see the backstories of the current members of The Seven, highlighting the environments they grew up in and their early years as supes.

Ryan In Training

At the end of the season 2 finale, Homelander's son, Ryan, proved to be a powerful supe, possibly even more powerful than Homelander. Ryan burned off all four of Stormfront's limbs with his heat vision, whereas Homelander was only able to singe Stormfront. Ryan's powers have yet to be fully explored, giving season 3 the option to show Ryan as he learns to control his abilities.

However, Butcher left Ryan with Mallory and the CIA, calling into question whether or not Ryan will return for season 3. A more fascinating story development would have Butcher in charge of training Ryan, further angering Homelander, who failed at getting Ryan to use his powers.

Congresswoman Neuman's Plans Revealed

Congresswoamn Nauman is revealed to be a Supe

One of the biggest mysteries of season 2 was the identity of the culprit behind the exploding heads. The finale finally unveiled the culprit to be Congresswoman Victoria Neuman, who was revealed to be a supe with the ability to telekinetically blow up people's heads.

However, there's still a lot of mystery surrounding her role as the secret assassin, especially since she opposes Vought and is funneling money into Butcher's task force. So who does she work for? What's her end goal? These are questions that Season 3 will have to answer.

Stormfront's Return

With the reveal that she's a secret Nazi, Stormfront proved to be a very polarizing character, yet she also makes for a great villain. However, the end of season 2 left her practically burnt to a crisp without any limbs and missing an eye. The finale did confirm that Stormfront didn't die, leaving a return for season 3 as a strong possibility.

The only question that remains is how exactly the show will bring her back. Regardless, Stormfront has a fun set of abilities and she's one of the more powerful supes, even rivaling Homelander, making her a welcome return for season 3.

An Unhinged Homelander

Homelander, played by a phenomenal Antony Starr, wasn't left in a good spot at the end of season 2. His son was taken from him, his lover, Stormfront, was severely injured, and Queen Maeve blackmailed him, usurping control of The Seven, which all added up to a very bad day for Homelander. However, he still has his public image intact, the one thing he cares the most about.

But what happens when he no longer cares about his public image and would rather be feared than adored? Fans have seen what Homelander is capable of and he could become even more unhinged with things no longer in his control. Season 3 may very well set in motion the beginning of Homelander's descent into madness.
