Actor Jensen Ackles teases Soldier Boy's return in the upcoming The Boys season 4. The Boys serves as a superhero satire, based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's comic book of the same name. The Amazon Prime Video show follows an in-universe Justice League analog "The Seven". A group of primarily non-powered vigilantes with superhero vendettas, "The Boys", bands together to put a stop to the company that controls superheroes, Vought International. Ackles debuted as the original superhero, Soldier Boy, during The Boys season 3.
Ackles teased on Instagram his return as Soldier Boy in The Boys season 4. Ackles shared a Soldier Boy featurette from season 3 and aptly captioned it with "Love these peeps. Can’t wait to throw the suit back on. That’s my Christmas wish." Soldier Boy's return to The Boys would be a welcome return from audiences, as the character, and Ackles' performance, was universally acclaimed by critics and viewers. How Soldier Boy Could Return In The Boys Season 4
The Boys' season 3 ending left Soldier Boy alive, but trapped unconscious inside a secure facility as Mallory watched over him. Hughie and the rest of the team were able to stop Soldier Boy with the help of Frenchie's nerve agent and a selfless Queen Maeve, who jumped out of a building with Soldier Boy to protect the group from his impending energy burst. Because of Soldier Boy's explosion special effects, Maeve was rendered powerless. Luckily, Maeve accepted her new condition and used it to escape from Homelander's gaze with her girlfriend, making it seem like the character's time on The Boys is done.
With Soldier Boy ending season 3 locked away, someone will have to free him for Ackles to return in The Boys season 4. That someone could be no other than congresswoman Victoria Neuman, who'll be running for Vice President of the United States in the new season. After the reveal that Soldier Boy's Homelander's father, if Neuman were to wake him up, Ackles' character would surely be at the ready to face Homelander, who he called a disappointment in The Boys season 3 finale. Soldier Boy's return would also be bad news for Butcher's team, keeping their focus away from Neuman's political aspirations.
Everything We Know About The Boys Season 4
The Boys season 4 needs to deal with the political fallout left after season 3. Neuman will be running for Vice President alongside presidential nominee Robert Singer, who chose her for the role after the death of his initial pick. Neuman asked Homelander to kill Singer's pick in exchange for giving him his son Ryan's location. Homelander then put The Deep on the job, and he delivered. Butcher proceeds to tell his team that Neuman's their next target, poising the character to serve as season 4's big villain. Neuman will need Soldier Boy's help to deal with all the threats that will be coming her way, especially with a murderous Homelander being applauded by the public alongside his son Ryan, who smiles at the ordeal and should prove an interesting character to follow when The Boys season 4 comes around.
