A new trailer for The Boys: Diabolical reveals Homelander's Vought origin story. The upcoming series is an animated spin-off of Amazon Prime Video's hit adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's comic book series of the same name developed by Eric Kripke. The Boys: Diabolical hails from several high-profile creatives, including original series executive producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, along with Shang-Chi's Awkwafina, Andy Samberg, and Rick and Morty's Justin Roiland.

Set within the same universe as its parent series, The Boys: Diabolical acts as an eight-part collection of animated short films exploring a range of stories related to the corrupt superhero world that fans of The Boys have come to know and love. Each episode will run between 12 and 14 minutes and feature a unique animation style. The show has assembled an incredible ensemble voice cast that includes Michael Cera, Don Cheadle, Kieran Culkin, Kumail Nanjiani, Ben Schwartz, Christian Slater, Kevin Smith, Kenan Thompson, and Yuh-Jung Youn. The Boys stars Chace Crawford, Giancarlo Esposito, Elizabeth Shue, and Antony Starr return to voice their respective characters, while Simon Pegg takes over as Hughie Campbell.

Now, Prime Video has debuted a full-length trailer for The Boys: Diabolical previewing the animated spin-off show. Homelander's origin story with Vought takes center stage in the trailer, which actually isn't that much different from the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Captain America, as he takes the Compound V serum and makes a handsome transformation. There's also plenty of superhero body-horror, including a man with a speaker for a head and some kind of worm-lady. Watch the trailer below:

Homelander isn't the only member of The Seven showcased in the trailer, as Black Noir and The Deep are also shown. Early on, the trailer highlights how Diabolical is from the same "warped" and "wonderfully damaged" minds behind The Boys. Just the original series, the animated spin-off has sent a clear message that it won't be for the squeamish or the faint of heart. Just like The Boys did for live-action, Diabolical will provide a decidedly darker take on superhero animation.

With The Boys: Diabolical slated to drop on March 4, the spin-off show will act as the perfect appetizer for The Boys season 3, following its June 3 premiere date. While the mainline series will be releasing episodes weekly, Diabolical will drop all eight shorts at once. With such an accomplished creative roster and voice cast, it should prove to be a worthy successor to Amazon's Emmy-nominated superhero series.
