Dr. Sheldon Cooper is the brainiac theoretical physicist in the favorite sitcom, The Big Bang Theory. With an IQ of 187 and an eidetic memory, Sheldon can cause quite a bit of unintentional trouble with his group of friends and wife, Amy Farrah Fowler. His high intelligence makes Sheldon a genius at work but can make him blind to sarcasm, physical attraction, and sensitive subjects. Thanks to these shortcomings, Sheldon's one genius to who finds himself unintentionally making plenty of mistakes. With almost 280 episodes and 12 seasons, Sheldon was bound to make mistakes throughout the series. Let's take a look at 10 that we can learn from in our own lives.

TAKING YOUR PARTNER FOR GRANTED

Sheldon sad in TBBT

Sheldon got extremely lucky finding a woman like Amy. She is his perfect match. But after five years of dating and going slow, Amy became tired of always feeling like she was in last place on Sheldon's list of priorities. Although she didn't want the relationship to end, she broke up with Sheldon for being taken for granted for far too long.

The loss devastated Sheldon and it took him weeks to get over it. Thankfully, the pair got back together but it was a lesson learned for Sheldon to be thankful for the woman in his life. Likewise, we can all use this as a reminder in our own relationships.

BEING TONE DEF AT WORK

Janine Davis talks with Sheldon in HR on The Big Bang Theory

Oh, Sheldon. While fans (and the live audience) giggled uncontrollably at the relationship between Janine Davis (Caltech's HR administrator) and Sheldon, it's only because their conversations were so ludicrous.

Sheldon and his group of friends were called into HR on multiple occasions but it was her interactions with Sheldon in particular that we can learn from. Sheldon was called into her office in the sixth season after telling his intern Alex her "eggs" had an end-date to the equivalent of "egg salad." He then goes on to talk about women being "slaves" to their biological clock and ended up giving Janine a copy of Roots as an apology gift... Obviously, his naivety is something to learn from.

TAKING CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS NOT DO

After Leonard has an incredible theory, he runs to Sheldon for some backup. Sheldon ends up doing the math and writing a full paper on it and publishes it under both their names.

Later on, a science magazine calls Sheldon to talk more about their theory and instead of crediting Leonard a the lead scientist, Sheldon took all the credit and didn't correct them for their mistake. This showed a lot about Sheldon's character and was a sad twist in their friendship. Giving credit where it's so obviously due is critical.

AND TAKING A JOB AWAY FROM FRIENDS IS NOT GOING TO END WELL

Sheldon, Leonard, and Howard discuss guidance system project with Colonel Williams on TBBT

Following the entry above, it's clear by now that Sheldon has a problem with not being the smartest in the room. Even if that means outshining and belittling his best friends and wife.

When the group is asked to work on a super-secret project for the military, Sheldon makes promises on the deadline that he couldn't meet. To make matter worse, when the military took their project back without warning, Howard and Leonard realize that Sheldon was still secretly working with them. Throwing his friends under the bus and once again taking ownership of a group project is not very becoming of Sheldon.

DON'T EMBARRASS YOUR WIFE IN HER PLACE OF WORK

Sheldon loves Amy so much that he doesn't even realize when he's embarrassing or annoying her. On her first day of working at Caltech, Sheldon bombarded her lunch with her new colleagues and said some out-of-character things, making Amy question her decision to work where Sheldon works. This happened again in the 11th season when Sheldon proposes to Amy and meets her co-workers in New Jersey.

He makes the entire conversation about himself and took the shine away from Amy and her work. We saw a similar problem in the 12th season where Sheldon encouraged the end of Amy's project for something else that benefited him. Not allowing his partner to shine in her own right is controlling and unfair,

USING PEOPLE IS A NO-NO

Stuart and Sheldon have brunch with friends on The Big Bang Theory

Sheldon, at his core, is a sincere and sweet person. He just has problems showing that side of him. In "The Fetal Kick Catalyst," Sheldon and Amy decide to throw a bunch to celebrate their new relationship as roommates. Instead of inviting their typical friend group over, they invited Stuart from the comic book store, Bert from the geology lab, and their neighbor Mrs. Petrescu. When Stuart asks where everyone else is, Sheldon explains that they're his practice round before the brunches that matter. His dismissal of their friendship deeply hurt Stuart, who really is an instrumental part of their friend group.

HOLDING GRUDGES DOESN'T GET YOU VERY FAR

Tam and Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory

Sheldon is a diehard grudge holder. For a grown man with an amazing career, he sure does know how to act like a child when he wants to. In the 11th season's "The Reclusive Potential," he mentioned that he wanted his own "grudge chair," where he can sit and think about those who did him wrong. In the same season, we learn about the grudges he holds against his brother before the two finally makes amends for his wedding. And in the 12th season, we learn that Sheldon had a childhood friend named Tam. When Tam decided to remain in Texas and didn't move to LA with Sheldon, Sheldon practically wrote him off for it.

PRANKS AREN'T ALWAYS FUNNY

Leonard and his itchy sweater on TBBT

Once Sheldon becomes more understanding of humor and sarcasm, he tries to get in on the "fun." However, Sheldon's version of pranking isn't necessarily funny.

In the seventh season, Leonard reluctantly tells Sheldon he never returned a DVD that was rented seven years ago. As payback, Leonard wears an old itchy sweater until he was able to return the DVD. Leonard jumped through hoops but wasn't able to because the store was now closed but as it turned out, Sheldon actually returned the DVD for Leonard seven years ago after realizing Leonard never did it... Meaning Leonard itched his belly to death for no reason. He did something similar in the 11th season when he took Leonard, Howard, and Raj's Bitcoin information and placed it on a hard drive for fun; a hard drive that Leonard lost years ago... Bazinga?

DON'T MAKE FUTURE PLANS WITHOUT DISCUSSING WITH YOUR PARTNER

Sheldon was extremely selfish in his earlier years with Amy. The perfect example of this is when Sheldon applied to be one of the first people to live on Mars (if given the opportunity). The problem is, he never told Amy of his future plans. He was totally fine with living on two different planets without talking it over, which deeply upset Amy.

THREES A CROWD ON DATE NIGHTS

We're all aware of Sheldon and Amy's Relationship Agreement. In the agreement, it states how many date nights they're supposed to have throughout the month, which elates Amy. However, on their anniversary, Sheldon realized there's no rule in the agreement stating friends couldn't join them on their dates, so he invited Raj. To make matters worse, Raj couldn't take the hint that he was interrupting a big night for the couple. So before anyone invites a third wheel on date night, it's best to talk it over with their partner first.
