The Riddler is digging dirt on Bruce Wayne's family in a new The Batman TV spot. Paul Dano is playing the primary villain in the upcoming Matt Reeves project, which will debut Robert Pattinson's take on the Caped Crusader. As its March 2022 release date nears, Warner Bros. is ramping up marketing efforts for The Batman with the continued release of shorter, but equally interesting teaser clips.

It would be an understatement to say that there is massive anticipation surrounding The Batman. Reeves has assembled an impressive ensemble, joining Pattinson and Dano with Zoë Kravitz's Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Colin Farrell as Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, and Andy Serkis as Alfred. But aside from just debuting a brand new Batman, the film actually launches an entirely new pocket of the DC multiverse, separate from the DCEU. Since the Bat of Gotham is known for having the deepest and most interesting rogues gallery, there's also equal anticipation for The Batman's villains, led by Dano's Zodiac Killer-inspired Riddler.

Several TV spots for The Batman have already teased what to expect from the mysterious bad guy. In the latest from Warner Bros. Pictures, however, the focus is on Riddler's work unearthing the secrets of the Wayne family. Seemingly having an idea about what Dano's villain is up to or the Bruce Wayne/Batman connection, Catwoman says, "Riddler's latest, it's all about the Waynes." Meanwhile, Bruce finds himself at the center of a puzzle featuring text that reads, "THE SINS OF MY FATHER?" Watch the full trailer below.

This TV spot for The Batman fits well with a previously released clip, which reveals that the Riddler is actually after Bruce, rather than his vigilante persona. It also supports the villain's mysterious clues throughout marketing footage, hinting to Bruce that the Wayne family are personally tied to the systemic corruption in Gotham. It looks as if this becomes tricky for the hero to digest, considering that he's working hard to see his home city improve in The Batman. At this point, it's difficult to gauge what exactly Riddler's overall plan is, but the fact that he's going after Bruce and his family could be an indication that this whole scheme is personal to him.

Given previous trailers, fans can expect The Batman to delve deep into the Waynes' history and their connection to the city of Gotham. While the marketing material for the film has yet to reveal any, The Batman is likely to feature flashback sequences. The part of a young Thomas Wayne, Bruce's father, has reportedly been cast, set to be played by Game of Thrones alum Luke Roberts. In a cryptic behind-the-scenes image shared by the actor on his official Instagram, Roberts was seen reading Batman: Sins of the Father, which could be linked to the Riddler's message to Bruce in the The Batman TV spot above. Whatever the case may be, fortunately, fans won't have to wait that long to find out what part the Wayne family history has to play in The Batman, and what dark truths Pattinson's Caped Crusader may have to confront.
