Ted Lasso meets The Batman in a creepily good trailer mashup that makes the Apple TV+ series far more intense than it really is. After breaking out in a major way in its first season, Ted Lasso has only become more of a success in 2021. The Jason Sudeikis-led series swept at the Emmys in September, winning awards for acting and best comedy series. Not long after, Ted Lasso wrapped up season 2 on Apple TV+ with a game-changing finale that perfectly sets up season 3, which could very well be its end.
Meanwhile, the upcoming Matt Reeves film The Batman enjoyed a rather eventful weekend thanks to its showing at DC FanDome. Because it was delayed from this year to March 2022, there have been very few updates about the movie in recent months. That's why the newest trailer for The Batman, which arrived on Saturday, stirred up so much excitement among fans. The movie stars Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, now in his second year of being Gotham's vigilante. The Batman promises to be a darker exploration of the iconic character, with the arrival of a serial killer pushing him to his limits.
The Batman and Ted Lasso couldn't be farther apart in terms of tone, which is why the idea of a crossover between the two is so intriguing. Emmy winner Jason Gallagher decided to combine the two, taking the audio for the Batman's trailer and laying it over edited bits of Ted Lasso. Ted Lasso is known for its messages of optimism and kindness, so the brutal sounds of The Batman are somewhat jarring to hear when paired with footage from the series. At the same time, the mashup does an excellent job of making Nate (Nick Mohammed) look even more like a villain than Ted Lasso season 2 already did. The Riddler (Paul Dano) might be doing truly terrifying things in The Batman, but based on this edited trailer, he can't hold a candle to Nate's wrongdoing.
Both The Batman and Ted Lasso season 3 are expected to arrive in 2022, and its stands to reason that they will both be some of the most-discussed pieces of pop culture for the year. The Batman has been eagerly anticipated by DC fans for some time now, and Ted Lasso has only gotten bigger with its sophomore run. Though they certainly don't exist within the same universe, perhaps they have more in common than they seem to on the surface. At least, that's what the above trailer suggests.
