A new action figure inspired by The Batman imagines Robert Pattinson in a classic stealth suit hearkening back to the source material and DC movies of old. In the decades since Adam West’s 1960s Batman television series and Tim Burton’s live-action Batman in 1989, the Batman franchise become more grounded thanks in large part to Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy. Following Ben Affleck’s departure from his DCEU solo project, and Pattinson’s subsequent casting, Matt Reeves’ more gritty, grounded reboot in The Batman was released in theaters on March 4, 2022.

Inspired by comics like Batman: Year One and The Long HalloweenThe Batman focuses on a younger Bruce Wayne in his second year as Batman as he investigates a string of politically motivated murders committed by a serial killer known as the Riddler (Paul Dano). With Pattinson’s eye makeup and bat symbol that doubles as a glauca knife, The Batman is a far cry from the camp of films like 1995's Batman Forever and 1997's Batman and Robin. That said, the noir thriller has become a critical and commercial success, proving itself a faithful addition to the legacy of the “World’s Greatest Detective.” For many, The Batman earned Pattinson his place in Caped Crusader history alongside previous Batmen Adam West, Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale, and Affleck.

Now, a new The Batman-inspired action figure created Mezco Toys has been shared by MRLEE on Instagram. The piece imagines Pattinson’s Dark Knight sporting a stealth suit and bat symbol reminiscent of the films from the late 1980s and 90s. All the figure is missing is the gold and yellow trim, and a utility belt. Check it out below:

Ironically, Pattinson has revealed that he had access to all previous batsuits, as he had to wear each one during The Batman audition process. However, only Clooney’s Batsuit from Batman and Robin ultimately fit the actor. Unlike Clooney’s, Pattinson’s final suit in The Batman is more tactical, breaks apart, and allows the wearer to move more freely. The same can be said about the batsuit from Batman Forever, as it was more flexible than the suits that preceded it.

Pattinson’s suit in The Batman is more grounded, but pays tribute to much of Batman’s history, with pieces reminiscent of Lee Bermejo’s design, Batman: Zero Year, and the Batman: Arkham games. However, there’s no denying the appearance of the stealth suit above, which is arguably a perfect marriage of old and new. Being that Pattinson’s Batman is still figuring things out, it’s likely that his suit will evolve in The Batman 2 and other potential sequels. For now, fans can admire the latest cape and cowl in The Batman when it hits HBO Max on April 18.
