A new fan poster for The Batman paints the Riddler’s question mark over Bruce Wayne/Batman’s face. Writer and director Matt Reeves’ upcoming Batman reboot will explore the early years of Robert Pattinson’s vigilante as he earns the mantle of “World’s Greatest Detective.” Inspired by comics like The Long Halloween, The Batman will pit multiple villains against its DC hero. John Turturro's Carmine Falcone, Zoë Kravitz's Catwoman/Selina Kyle, and Colin Farrell’s Penguin will all appear in the film. On top of that, iconic villains like Two-Face and Joker may even be teased. However, none of them will be The Batman’s main villain.
As made clear in the first The Batman trailer, which dropped over a year ago and set the internet ablaze, The Batman’s web of crimes will see serial killer Edward Naston/The Riddler (Paul Dano) at its nucleus. The masked man with an affinity for duct tape is going around Gotham City killing people and leaving clues for Batman. For example, after murdering mayor Don Mitchell, Riddler leaves a card specifically for Batman and writes “No More Lies” on Mitchell’s duct-taped face. It would seem that Batman is also at the center of the Riddler's web, and perhaps the film’s biggest question revolves around Pattinson's Bruce Wayne himself.
Artist Messypandas on Instagram recently shared a fan poster for The Batman that puts Riddler’s question mark on the Dark Knight’s face. The iconic question mark has already been prominent in previous trailers, identifying Dano's villain via the foam in his coffee cup. Reminiscent of other posters of The Batman, this new fan-created poster utilizes shades of black and red. Check it out below:

The Riddler hasn’t appeared on the big screen since Jim Carrey’s depiction in the 1995 film, Batman Forever. That being said, the supervillain has never been fully utilized in a dark and gritty live-action movie — but that’s all about to change. Even more than Joker, Naston’s penchant for riddles will challenge Bruce’s morality, development as a crime fighter and, more importantly, detective, which may bring him to some uncomfortable conclusions in The Batman.
In the comics and on the small screen, Riddler’s love for puzzles has always extended to what he considers to be the biggest mystery of all: Batman’s identity. All of The Batman’s trailers have implied that this Riddler already knows Bruce Wayne is Batman. So, his ultimate goal wouldn’t be to discover Batman’s identity but rather deconstruct Bruce Wayne’s cover. Based upon the available The Batman footage, it would appear that Riddler’s motive concerns Gotham’s corruption. What's more, given his obsession with Bruce, and what looks to be a contentious relationship between Bruce and Andy Serkis’ Alfred, the Wayne family most likely has a dirty history. Given this intriguing take on Batman and his rogues gallery, there's no question that The Batman is the most anticipated movies of the year.
