A new trailer for The Batman reveals more of the Riddler's games and puts Bruce Wayne in his crosshairs. The Batman has been in the works for years; first, as a DCEU vehicle for Ben Affleck, and then as a standalone effort directed by Matt Reeves. Robert Pattinson steps into the role of Bruce Wayne for the film, which takes place within his second year of being Batman. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, The Batman has endured a few more delays than initially expected, but it is now scheduled to finally arrive in March of this year.

Batman has been adapted for the big screen numerous times over the years, but this take promises to offer something different. Reeves has aimed to shine a bigger spotlight on Bruce's skills as a detective through a murder mystery. The Riddler (Paul Dano) is targeting members of Gotham's elite, and it will take all of Bruce's determination - and maybe an assist from Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz) - to stop him. The Batman also includes several other familiar supporting characters, such as Alfred (Andy Serkis), the Penguin (Colin Farrell), and Jim Gordon (Jeffrey Wright).

A new Batman trailer from Warner Bros. Indonesia shows Bruce and Gordon teaming up to solve the Riddler's dangerous puzzles. At one key moment, Gordon is stunned to realize Bruce Wayne is the Riddler's next victim. Exactly what leads to this conclusion isn't clear just yet, but it hints Bruce will need to be doubly cautious when playing these games. Check out the trailer below.

With Bruce being one of the wealthiest figures in Gotham, it's no surprise he would be on the Riddler's list of potential victims. What isn't clear just yet is whether the Riddler knows Bruce is Batman. As The Batman takes place in Bruce's second year as the hero, it seems likely that only Alfred is yet aware of his alter ego; after all, there was another trailer that had Catwoman questioning who is beneath the Batman mask. Therefore, one can theorize that Riddler's interest in Bruce is separate from his preoccupation with Batman, though there's a chance he'll figure it out as the movie goes on.

Though The Batman might, in some ways, resemble Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, it's clear Reeves has crafted a unique story that draws from movies like Seven as much as it does comic books. The mystery the Riddler creates stands apart from the world-saving plots that typically fill superhero movies these days, setting up an interesting premise for fans to untangle over its lengthy runtime. The truth behind the Riddler's plot will be revealed in just under two months.
