A new image teasing The Batman offers a peek at how much the Gotham PD knows about Robert Pattinson's superhero. Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman is one of the most hotly anticipated movies of 2022 thanks to its unique take on the iconic DC character. It was once slated to arrive in June of this year, then October before it shifted to March 2022. The Batman stands apart from Warner Bros.' DCEU, instead operating within its own universe. The Batman stars Pattinson in the title role. This Bruce Wayne is in his second year as Gotham City's vigilante, and he's already facing one of his biggest crises yet thanks to the Riddler (Paul Dano). The twisted rogue has been killing members of Gotham's elite, plunging the city into terror. The Batman will put special emphasis on the hero's detective side even as he contends with additional villains like the Penguin (Colin Farrell) and Carmine Falcone (John Turturro). At the same time, Bruce has a few allies on his side, such as Alfred (Andy Serkis) and Commissioner Gordon (Jeffrey Wright).
Gordon in particular represents a key part of the Batman universe: The Gotham PD. This image shows the GCPD still has much to learn about Batman. These sketches, which all look to be from the same report, don't offer much by way of details when it comes to Bruce's face; more attention is placed on his cowl, though the middle sketch is by far the most accurate. It could be that these three pictures come from different witnesses all offering unique perspectives on the Batman, perhaps indicating there's still a great deal of intrigue surrounding him.
The Batman is still the early days of Bruce's tenure as the hero, but he is already a person of interest within the GCPD. The first trailer showed Gordon consulting Bruce while still in his Batman costume, so it could be that the department isn't actively hunting him. Nevertheless, there's a level of distrust between law enforcement and Batman, and that will surely impact Bruce's actions in the movie. With the Gotham PD also set to receive its own spin-off, fans can assume this unique relationship will get fleshed out even more in The Batman and beyond. It'll be interesting to see how it develops.
