The Batman's Jeffrey Wright shares a throwback photo featuring himself and fellow-Jim Gordon-actor Gary Oldman together ahead of Matt Reeves' film's release. Wright is the latest actor to portray the Gotham City Policeman in Reeves' take on the Caped Crusader. Oldman portrayed the character throughout Christopher Nolan's trilogy of films.

One of Batman's closest allies in Gotham, Commissioner Jim Gordon is one of the few individuals in the GCPD who the hero trusts, as well as the father of Bat-family member Batgirl. Introduced in Detective Comics #27 in May 1939, Gordon is one of the most notable n0n-superpowered characters in DC Comics and has since appeared in many pieces of media adapting the comics. From Adam West's Batman to the Tim Burton/Joel Schumacher films and the DCEU, the character has appeared in each adaptation of the character, even leading his own series in Gotham. Wright was cast as Gordon in 2019, and audiences will soon be able to see his take on the GCPD officer, who has not yet ascended to the organization's highest office.

Posting the photo on both Twitter and Instagram, Wright shares an image of a black-and-white photo taken of himself and Oldman. Accompanying the image, he writes, "Two Gordons. 1995. Gotham City. Pass the light," along with the March 4 release date for The Batman. The image depicts Wright and Oldman during the production of 1996's Basquiat, in which the pair starred alongside David Bowie, Christopher Walken, and Willem Dafoe. Wright plays Brooklyn-born postmodernist/neo-expressionist artist Jean-Michael Basquiat in the film, while Oldman portrays fellow artist Albert Milo, a character based on the film's director, Julian Schnabel. While Wright is portraying one of Batman's closest allies, the actor will also step into the shoes of Batman himself. Wright is set to voice Bruce Wayne in a lighter, more comedic take on the character's mythos, Batman: The Audio Adventures, set to pay homage to West's series as well as the popular Batman: The Animated Series. The project will release on HBO Max as a podcast series produced by the streaming service, DC Entertainment, and Blue Ribbon Content. Alongside Gordon and Batman, Wright has also portrayed two other comic book characters, having voiced Uatu the Watcher in Marvel Studios' What If..? animated series, as well as Destiny of the Endless in Audible's adaptation of Neil Gaiman's The Sandman.

As shown in Wright's throwback photo, Gordon is an essential part of Batman's mythos who has been brought to life by many talented actors. Having made more appearances in film than even sidekick Robin, the character has become a firm favorite for audiences. And, with Wright set to return to the role on TV as part of HBO Max's Gotham PD series, fans can expect to see more of The Batman's Jim Gordon as Reeves' The Batman universe grows.
