Matt Reeves has uploaded the funeral scene from his upcoming film The Batman. The film was initially conceived to be Ben Affleck's first DCEU solo film, but the actor soon left the role as the Caped Crusader due to various reasons. Twilight star Robert Pattinson is now taking on the iconic role but received some backlash when the news first broke out, with the actor himself even thinking he wasn't fit for the role at first. Pattinson's talents eventually won fans over, however, with excellent performances in recent films like Tenet and The Lighthouse. Even more hesitant viewers were proved wrong when the first The Batman trailer was released in October of 2021, showing that Pattinson was a strong choice for the role.

The Batman takes inspiration from the Year One comics storyline, focusing more on Batman's detective side in his younger years. The film will mainly see Bruce Wayne face off against Paul Dano's The Riddler, with mob boss Penguin, played by Colin Farrell, also featuring as a classic DC villain in the film. Pattinson's Batman will be joined by Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman/Selina Kyle and Jefferey Wright as Jim Gordon, with Andy Serkis playing Batman's butler Alfred. Kravitz's portrayal of Catwoman has been highly anticipated by fans since the announcement, especially former Catwoman Halle Berry, who has praised and hyped Kravitz's performance.

Now, The Batman fans have received a special treat from director Reeves, as he uploaded a 4k version of the full funeral scene on Twitter. The scene was leaked online and showed the Riddler's attack on a funeral that had only been teased in previous trailers, so the filmmaker decided to release it officially. In the new The Batman clip, Bruce Wayne sees the Riddler before a car crashes through the church, with D.A. Gil Colson coming out of a car with a message "To The Batman." Check out Reeves' post below.

The Riddler has always been one of Batman's most interesting villains, and The Batman looks to be complicating things further, with Dano's version seemingly already having an inkling about Bruce Wayne's secret identity. The villain has appeared in films before in Batman Forever, played by the talented Jim Carrey. However, Carrey's version was considered to be less serious and more comedic, an entirely different depiction of Dano's more threatening Riddler. Reeves previously revealed that Dano's Riddler was in fact inspired by the notorious Zodiac Killer, a real-life serial killer at large during the 1970s.

Reeves' The Batman is one of the most highly anticipated films of 2022, and has been for quite some time since its announcement and through many subsequent release delays. Given the extreme hype around the introduction of Pattinson's Batman, it is unsurprising (though unfortunate) that leaked footage has already begun to circulate. Getting ahead of these leaks by releasing the clip officially is a wise move from Reeves, and helps to regain control of the film's marketing strategy. Protecting the film's secrets is crucial, since Reeves has already planned on building an entire franchise around The Batman, including two spin-off shows, so keeping spoilers at bay is a must.
