Zoe Kravitz has just confirmed what her hairstyle as Selina Kyle/Catwoman in 2021’s highly anticipated The Batman will look like. She started showing off a new, pixie-like hairdo back in November, leading fans to speculate if the look would carry over into DC’s upcoming spin-off film – and they now have the answer.

The daughter of rocker Lenny Kravitz and actress Lisa Bonet, Kravitz was cast as Catwoman last October, having previously voiced the character in 2017’s The Lego Batman Movie. Before she picked up Selina Kyle’s iconic whip and claws, Kravitz entered the world of comics in the roles of the winged mutant Angel Salvadore in 2011’s X-Men: First Class and the voice of Mary Jane Watson in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, as well as featuring in both the Fantastic Beasts films and Mad Max: Fury Road.

Writer and reporter Liz Shannon Miller posted a picture of Zoe Kravitz's new look on her Twitter page earlier this morning, later confirming that the shorter haircut will indeed be used in her upcoming role as Catwoman. “ZOE KRAVITZ HAS CONFIRMED THAT HER SHORT HAIRCUT ON STAGE IS HER CATWOMAN HAIR FOR BATMAN AND IT IS VERY CUTE.” Miller added excitedly, noting that the aforementioned image was taken at the annual Television Critics Association event, where Kravitz was promoting her new Hulu-exclusive adaptation of the Nick Hornby novel High Fidelity. There still isn’t much known about Selina Kyle’s role in The Batman, but it’s believed the prequel will explore the origins of her complicated on-again/off-again relationship with Bruce Wayne and his heroic alter-ego. The popular belief is that director Matt Reeves is drawing plot elements from the 1996 comic series Batman: The Long Halloween, which was previously a loose inspiration for 2008’s The Dark Knight. During both the original story and its two follow-ups, Dark Victory and Catwoman: When In Rome, Selina Kyle is a former prostitute-turned-street thief who suspects she might be the illegitimate child of Gotham mob boss Carmine "The Roman" Falcone. John Turturro’s casting as Falcone in November lends weight to this storyline being used in The Batman, although nothing’s been confirmed yet.

Regardless of what she’ll be up to during the events of the film, Zoe Kravitz is certainly looking the part of Gotham’s toughest cat burglar. The closely cut hair is a departure from previous Catwomen such as Julie Newmar, Michelle Pfeiffer, or Anne Hathaway, but it makes sense for someone wearing a tight-fitting, cat-shaped cowl over her head. Kravitz’s look also bears a strong resemblance to Selina’s more recent appearances in the comics, which will be a plus for fans. Moviegoers will get the chance to see her version of Catwoman when The Batman hits theaters in 2021.
