Batman and Catwoman have a closer relationship than ever in The Batman, but the movie ends with Catwoman fleeing to the mysterious city of Blüdhaven. The 2022 film is a grounded and much darker version of the Caped Crusader than ever seen before, even darker than either Tim Burton or Christopher Nolan's adaptations. The movie sees Robert Pattinson's Batman wander through Gotham at night solving crimes and riddles, and when he isn't accompanied by James Gordon, he's often with by cat burglar Selina Kyle. The Bat and the Cat is a great crime-fighting team when Selina is willing to help.

The Batman does a more ambitious job of building a cinematic world than any previous iteration of the franchise too. Part of how writer/director Matt Reeves achieves that is with nods to Batman lore that might have gone over general audiences' heads, such as signposts to the unknown Blüdhaven. At the end of The Batman, when the masked vigilante and Selina part ways on their bikes, Selina turns left and heads towards Blüdhaven, and while that might mean nothing to casual viewers, comic book readers know how much of a big deal the tease of the industrial city really is.

Where Is Bludhaven

The city is a failed shipping and manufacturing hub, and it's a hotbed for criminal activity, even more than Gotham. Most of the best-known places in Blüdhaven are industrial locations, such as the sewage treatment plant, the municipal landfill, and the train yards. The location has been exposed to countless terrorist attacks and is essentially a giant warzone where Batman's most fantastical villains practice their most deadly strikes, which explains why it looks so derelict and rundown. The city is close to Gotham, and just as Goham is often based on Chicago and New York, Blüdhaven's look and aesthetic are based on New Jersey.

Bludhaven Is Protected By Nightwing

Even though it sits outside Gotham, Blüdhaven isn't entirely without a masked vigilante protecting the streets. Nightwing watches over the city and protects the civilians from crime. The former Batman sidekick moved to Blüdhaven after he had a falling out with Batman. Nightwing is Dick Grayson, who was the original Robin, but after his falling out with The Caped Crusader, Dick took on Nightwing as his new alter ego and made Blüdhaven his responsibility. Dick protects the city from some of the most monstrous villains, such as Darkseid, which makes it strange that Blüdhaven appears in the grounded movie, as it's home to the most supernatural rogues.

Why Does Catwoman Move To Bludhaven In The Batman

The Batman ultimately gave Catwoman the right ending, as she left her past behind her and moved to Blüdhaven to start a new life. Even though Selina has rarely visited Blüdhaven in the comic books, the location is the perfect fit for the anti-hero. And as The Batman follows the masked vigilante in his second year of crimefighting, Nightwing obviously doesn't exist yet. Catwoman's one trip to Blüdhaven in the comics saw her plotting and attempting a Jewelry Heist, which is her MO. And as the city is so crime-ridden and she's clearly most comfortable in the criminal underworld, the city of Blüdhaven would welcome her with open arms.
