If you are a man who fancies trying his luck at finding love on The Bachelor, then the best piece of advice is to be tall! American men are, on average, just over 5 feet 9 inches tall, and yet that height would make you the shortest Bachelor to ever appear on the show!

Every Bachelor has been taller than the average – but that could be because the show tends to feature average-height women who then go on to wear towering high heels. They don't seem to want a female winner who ends up head and shoulders above her new fiancé, and even in The Bachelorette, the girls always pick really tall guys.

Matt Grant - 6'5"

Hailing from across the Pond, Matt Grant was the first British Bachelor, and also the tallest ever leading man on the show.

He stood an impressive 6’5” in height which also meant that he was well over a foot taller than the woman he proposed to at the end of the 12th season, Shayne Lamas.

Matt James - 6'5"

Bachelor Nation fans don’t have long to wait until season 25 of The Bachelor starts in January, and they can also look forward to another tall leading man in the shape of Matt James, who is the first black Bachelor.

Like his namesake, James is also 6’5” tall, but fans will have to wait if he picks someone around the same height.

Ben Higgins - 6'4"

Coming in just an inch shorter than the two Matts, Ben Higgins was the leading man on the 20th season of The Bachelor in 2016, in which he selected Lauren Bushnell as his winner.

Lauren is 5’7”, which is pretty tall for a female contestant, but she looked tiny next to her Bachelor.

Sean Lowe - 6'3"

If you judge the success of a dating show by how long the relationship lasts, then Sean Lowe is the most successful Bachelor ever, as he is still married to his leading lady, Catherine Giudici.

Their romance shows that height isn’t everything, as the 6’3” Sean is a foot taller than his wife.

Colton Underwood - 6'3"

Colton Underwood was a professional football player before his appearance on The Bachelor, and you don’t find many short men in the NFL!

When the 6’3” Colton appeared on season 23 of The Bachelor, he chose the 5’6” Cassie Rudolph as his winner, though there was no happy ending for the couple.

Travis Lane Stork - 6'3"

Another Bachelor star who came in at an impressive 6’3” was Nashville doctor Travis Lane Stork, who was looking for love in season 8 of the show, eventually selecting 5’7” teacher Sarah Stone as his Miss Right.

In a surprising twist, they had gone their separate ways by the time the season finale aired!

Charlie O'Connell - 6'3"

Charlie O’Connell had already appeared as an actor in a couple of TV shows and movies by the time he joined the cast of The Bachelor.

Older brother Jerry may have enjoyed more Hollywood success, but Charlie has a big advantage over his big bro; he is one inch taller than him at 6’3”.

Nick Viall - 6'2"

Nick Viall from The Bachelor

After failing to find love on two seasons of The Bachelorette, Nick Viall was chosen to be the leading man on the 21st season of The Bachelor in 2016.

6’2” Nick proposed to Canadian Vanessa Grimaldi in the final, who was almost a whole foot shorter than her TV beau.

Jesse Palmer - 6'2"

Another 6’2” Bachelor was Jesse Palmer, who also played in the NFL and who has gone on to enjoy a career in sports broadcasting.

He was the leading man in season 5 of The Bachelor in 2004, finally choosing Jessica Bowlin as his winner, though they split up after just a few months.

Byron Velvick - 6'2"

Being over 6 feet in height seems to be a necessity for Bachelor contestants, with several of the show’s leading men measuring 6’2” or more.

Byron Velvick was not only one of the tallest contestants, but also one of the oldest, and was 40-years-old when he appeared on the show in 2004.

Ben Flajnik - 6'2"

Ben Flajnik was never one of the most popular Bachelor leading men, but he didn’t deserve to be treated so badly by his winner, Courtney Robertson, who ended up cheating on him with another Bachelor.

Fans may be surprised to learn that he is 6’2” as he never seemed to look as tall as some of the other guys on the small screen.

Arie Luyendyk Jr - 6'2"

Also coming in at 6’2” was Arie Luyendyk Jr, who was the Bachelor bad boy caught kissing Courtney when she still engaged to Flajnik.

Luyendyk caused a stir in the 22nd season when he ditched his winner in favor of runner-up Lauren Burnham – though the two are still happily married so perhaps it was the right choice.

Brad Womack - 6'1"

Brad Womack is something of a legend in Bachelor Nation circles, as he is the only guy to appear as a leading man on The Bachelor twice.

The first was in season 11 when he turned down all the prospective winners and again in season 15 when he proposed to Emily Maynard, who was just 5’4” out of her heels.

Chris Soules - 6'1"

Another leading man who clocks in at 6’1”, Chris Soules was the season 19 Bachelor in 2015, and he has gone on to carve out a reality TV career for himself.

He ended the season by proposing to nurse Whitney Bischoff who was one of the taller female contestants on the show, at a respectable 5’7”.

Peter Weber - 6'1"

Airline pilot Peter Weber, the leading man in the most recent season of The Bachelor, has had a complicated love life.

He initially chose Hannah Ann Sluss in the season finale, but they separated after just a few weeks, and he is now dating Kelly Flanagan, who he initially rejected on week 7 of the show!

Alex Michel - 6'1"

Also coming in at 6’1” is Alex Michel, who was the first-ever Bachelor back in 2002 when the show made its debut on ABC.

He chose Amanda Marsh over Miami Heat dancer Trista Rehn, who went on to become the first-ever Bachelorette, where she met husband Ryan Sutter.

Bob Guiney - 6'1"

The leading man from the fourth season of The Bachelor was mortgage broker Bob Guiney. He claimed to be 6’3” in height when asked, but entertainment website The Ringer reported that he was only 6’1”.

Guiney should know his height, of course, but he wouldn’t be the first person to lie about that kind of thing.

Jason Mesnick - 6'0"

One of three Bachelors to come in at dead-on 6 foot, Jason Mesnick was the leading man looking for love in season 13 of The Bachelor.

Mesnick first proposed to Melissa Rycroft but changed his mind and popped the question to runner-up Molly Malaney instead. Despite such an inauspicious start, the couple is still together.

Andrew Baldwin - 6'0"

Six-footer Andrew Baldwin was another man in uniform, and the first armed forces Bachelor to appear on the show.

The Naval officer and triathlete certainly had the physique to match his height, though he sadly failed to find love on The Bachelor, breaking up with Tessa Horst after just a few months.

Aaron Buerge – 6’0”

Businessman Aaron Buerge was the star of season 2 of The Bachelor back in 2002.

He ended the season by proposing to Helene Eksterowicz, who was only a few inches shorter than him in her heels, though they later split after Buerge famously broke up with her in a New Jersey Starbucks.
