The Emmy award-winning mini-series, The Alienist finished its second season on TNT. The season left fans hoping for more despite its wrapped up ending. What many critics praised was the show's accumulation of good actors that brought the thrilling story to life.

The main actors such as Dakota Fanning, Luke Evans, and Daniel Brühl have been seen in a plethora of on-screen works. The supporting cast also has its fair share of works that some might remember. Can't pinpoint where you've seen the cast? Let's take a look at what on-screen work they're most known for.

David Wilmot: Ripper Street

David Wilmot is an Irish actor who has graced television, film and stage work. He played Captain Connor in the series. Before being on the show, Wilmot played similar roles in other series.

In Ripper Street, he also played Sergeant Donald Artherton for three seasons. Unlike The Alienist, his character was well-liked and only retired after getting a bad case of gout. Wilmot was nominated for a Tony for his outdating lead actor role as Padraic in The Lieutenant of Inishmore. In season four of Black Sails, he played Israel Hands.

Melanie Field: Heathers

Bitsy Sussman was a new character introduced in the second season of the show. She was played by actress Melanie Field. Many would recognize her as part of the main cast in the show Heathers. She played one of the Heathers, Heather Chandler.

Beyond that, she also became well recognized for being part of the main cast as Kaitlin in the sitcom, Florida Girls. In season two of the popular thriller show You, she became a recurring member as Sunrise Darshan Cummings.

Frederick Schmidt: Supergirl

The bad and evil antagonist Goo Goo Knox looks oddly familiar. That's because he is mostly known for starring alongside Tom Cruise as Zola in Mission: Impossible – Fallout. He was also in Angel Has Fallen as Travis Cole.

Schmidt has also done some work on television and played John Corben/ Metallo for three episodes in Supergirl. He later reprised the role as a voice character in The Flash in "Crisis on Earth-X, Part 3."

Robert Wisdom: The Wire

Robert Wisdom is an actor that has been in almost everything you could imagine. Fans of Prison Break would remember him for playing the role of drug kingpin Lechero. Before that, he appeared in four seasons of The Wire as Howard "Bunny" Colvin.

His more notable roles come from television and have been a recurring character in Burn Notice, Happy Town, Nashville, Ballers, and Flaked. He is set to paly Caretaker in Marvel's Halestorm. He also occasionally pops up in Supernatural as the angel Uriel.

Matthew Shear: The Boy Downstairs

Before playing the role of a forensic scientist, Lucius Isaacson in The Alienist, Matthew Shear's biggest work was the role of Tony in the comedy film, Mistress of America. He also had some supporting roles in the 2017 film, The Boy Downstairs. 

In the Netflix film, Marriage Story, he played the role of Terry. Shear has also done some television work outside of the series and played guest roles in Deadbeat as Elijah and Horace and Pete as Zach.

Douglas Smith: Terminator Genisys

Actor Douglas Smith played the role of Marcus Isaacson, Lucius's twin and also a forensic scientist. Some audience members might have a hard time placing this familiar face. This might be due to the fact that he played a cyclops named Tyson on Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters. 

Smith might also be recognized for playing one of the main cast members in Big Love as Ben Hendrickson. He has a long list of accolades including a supporting role in a popular teen film called Sleepover. In Terminator Genisys he played Eric Thompson and also played Elliot in the supernatural horror film, The Bye Bye Man. In 2019, he had a supporting role as Corey in Big Little Lies.

Ted Levine: Monk

Thomas Byrnes was the Captain and Commissioner of the NYPD in The Alienist. The most hated character was played by actor Ted Levine. Levine is recognized for many popular roles including Captain Leland Stottlemeyer in the highly acclaimed detective show, Monk. He also played another cop role as Lt. Hank Wade in The Bridge. 

Above all, Levine is known for his antagonist and serial killer role as Jame "Buffalo Bill" Gumb in the cult classic film, The Silence of the Lambs. In 2018, he played Ken Wheatley in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The Fast and Furious fans would also remember him as Brian's (Paul Walker) superior Sergeant Tanner.

Daniel Brühl: Captain America: Civil War

Daniel Brühl played one-third of the main characters as Dr.Laszlo Kreizler, an alienist/psychologist. Brühl gained recognition in Germany before making it big in his breakout role of Fredrick Zoller in Inglourious Basterds. He also received good reviews for his portrayal as formula 1 driver Niki Lauda in Rush.

Marvel fans would automatically recognize the actor for being the cause of turmoil between Irom Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Captain America (Chris Evans) in Captain America: Civil War. He played antagonist Helmut Zemo and will reprise the role in the series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Luke Evans: Beauty And The Beast

Luke Evans is not only a talented singer and heartthrob but is also an incredible actor on-screen. He played John Moore, one of the three leading roles in the show. His latest role that gained him recognition was playing Gaston in the live-action, Beauty and the Beast. Before making it big on-screen, he first appeared on stage on Rent and Piaf. 

He then made his breakthrough in Clash of Titans, Immortals, and The Three Muskateers. He also played the main antagonist Owen Shaw in Fast & Furious 6. Lord of the Rings fans would remember him as Bard the Bowman in The Hobbit. He also played the famous character Dracula in the 2014 film origin story, Dracula Untold. 

Dakota Fanning: Once Upon A Time In Hollywood

Dakota Fanning has a long list of works dating back to when she was a child actor. One of her most recognized earlier works was as Lorraine "Ray" Schlein in the film Uptown Girls alongside Brittany Murphy. At seven years old, she was nominated for a SAG award for her role in I Am Sam. 

She continued rising in fame as an actress in films such as The Cat in the Hat, Man on Fire, Push, and Charlotte's Web. She soon took on mature roles in The Runaways as Cherie Cherie and played Jane in The Twilight Saga. She starred in the independent film Effie Gray and appeared in Ocean's 8. She played  Squeaky Fromme in the Charles Manson inspired Tarantino film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
