Attendees at Star Wars Celebration 2023 were thrilled to see the first footage from The Acolyte, a Star Wars TV show set during the High Republic Era. The future of Star Wars lies in the past - specifically, in the High Republic Era, a period of time centuries before the events of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. Introduced in a best-selling range of novels, comics, and audiobooks, this was a time when the light of the Jedi shone brightly across the galaxy. Lucasfim's upcoming TV show, Leslye Headland's The Acolyte, is set towards the tail-end of the High Republic Era - roughly 100 years before the prequel trilogy. The Acolyte is set to hit Disney+ in 2024 and is currently in post-production. The series is meant to highlight the Sith infiltration of the Jedi order, which will help set into motion the events of the Skywalker Saga, and the eventual fall of the Jedi. The marketing push for The Acolyte finally began at Star Wars Celebration 2023. The Lucasfilm Studio Panel featured exclusive footage from The Acolyte. Screen Rant was in attendance; here's a description of the footage revealed:

Several opening scenes at the temple as Jedi meditate. Lee trains Jedi younglings before it cuts to Carrie Anne Moss fighting Amandla Stenberg. "Close your eyes. Your eyes can deceive you." Many scenes are set around the capital of Coruscant, but there are also glimpses of what look likely to be less developed Rim worlds.

Action scenes feature Dafne Keen as what seems to be a Sith assassin in a dark costume, masked. They are hunting Jedi, make an attack on several. She is not seen with a lightsaber. She appears to be stalking from the shadows.

There's one shot of a Neimoidian, hinting the show will reveal how the Sith infiltrates groups like the Trade Federation. The Footage ends with a group of ten or twelve Jedi all lighting up their lightsabers, some of which are yellow. "This is about power and who is allowed to use it," ends the footage.

The footage shown at Star Wars Celebration highlights staples of the High Republic Era, most notably the golden robes worn by the Jedi at the time. Additionally, the final shot of The Acolyte teaser shows Jedi wielding yellow, blue, and green lightsabers. Yellow lightsabers were popularized when Rey revealed her lightsaber yellow at the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but their history is a lot older. Jedi who wield a yellow lightsaber were known as Sentinels, or Jedi who had balanced their scholarly pursuits along with combat. Jedi Temple guards were also known to wield a yellow lightsaber, with The Grand Inquisitor being revealed to have been a yellow-bladed guard during a Force vision in Star Wars Rebels.

The Acolyte footage also showed off hand-to-hand combat between the Jedi and Sith, which also featured a Matrix-like Force-fight, as well as extensive martial arts. Amandla Stenberg even said that the series feels like a mash-up between Frozen and Bill Kill, as it combines magical realism and martial arts.

It was also revealed at Lucasfilm’s Studio Showcase that Joonas Suotamo will be joining the cast of The Acolyte as a redesigned Wookiee Jedi. Suotamo has played Chewbacca in the sequel trilogy and Solo: A Star Wars Story, however, this is an entirely new character. It's not known exactly when in 2024 The Acolyte will be streaming on Disney+, but hopefully, Star Wars will release the teaser trailer online so that audiences can get a small taste of what’s to come.
