The Marvel Universe is home to some incredibly powerful villains, but in terms of raw strength, few can compete with the likes of Juggernaut and Thanos. Countless heroes have fallen in their wakes, but if these two powerhouses ever came to blows with one another, who would come out on top? Could Thanos stop the unstoppable Juggernaut, or would Cain Marko bring down the Mad Titan?

A longtime enemy of the X-Men, Juggernaut is officially a hero these days in Marvel Comics. Released last year, Marvel’s Juggernaut series by Fabian Nicieza and Ron Garney follows Cain as he tried to use his abilities to help people for a change, though that’s easier said than done when your main power is destroying everything in your path. Indeed, Cain isn’t known as the unstoppable Juggernaut for nothing - once he builds up momentum, he becomes impervious to virtually any physical attack, and nothing can stand in his way. Furthermore, with the mystical gem of Cyttorak, Cain gains additional invulnerability, making him strong enough to shatter entire mountains and withstand blows from Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir. That’s pretty impressive, but how does it stack up against Thanos?

Arguably the most infamous of all Marvel’s villains, Thanos has a laundry list of formidable feats, at the top of which is wiping out half of all life in Jim Starlin’s Infinity Gauntlet series. While Thanos needed the gauntlet to accomplish such a task, the Mad Titan is no slouch without the infinity stones, either. Thanos was born to a race called the Eternals and, despite his mutations, still inherited the abilities that come innately with his race, including super strength, energy projection, and immunity to virtually all poisons and diseases. A brilliant strategist, Thanos built his intergalactic army from the ground-up and used it to wipe out the Eternals on his home world of Titan in the Thanos Rising series. Since then, Thanos has only become more dangerous, even dabbling in the mystic arts, but is it enough to take on the Juggernaut?

Juggernaut Thanos

With an alien army backing him up, it’s safe to say Thanos is the overall more dangerous of the two, but boiled down to raw strength, the competition is a much closer call. Both Thanos and Juggernaut can easily lift upwards of 100 tons and have proven themselves in battle many times over. The easiest way to determine who would win is to look at their records against an opponent they have both faced before, and the Hulk fits the bill. As a being with strength as limitless as his rage, it’s difficult to imagine anyone overpowering the Hulk, but believe it or not, Thanos did it. In the Thanos vs Hulk series by Jim Starlin, the Mad Titan manages to take down the Jade Giant - and he doesn't even have the infinity stones. Meanwhile, in 2020’s Juggernaut series, Hulk and Juggernaut confirm who’s stronger when the two fight in issue #2, and it’s safe to say Hulk has Cain seriously outclassed.

Hulk Thanos Juggernaut

Based on their records against the Hulk, as well as his overall tactical superiority, Thanos would almost certainly win in a fight against Juggernaut. Cain surely wouldn’t go down easy, but seeing as the Mad Titan has him beat in just about every category, it’s only a matter of time before Thanos stops Juggernaut in his tracks.
