Warning! Spoilers for X-Men: Red #5 by Marvel Comics

In one of his most brutal kills against the X-Men, Thanos' grand-uncle just murdered Magneto in a move much like Superman's darkest kill against the Joker. In X-Men: Red #5 by Marvel Comics, Uranos the Undying obliterates the mutants on Arakko and leaves little life left alive on the mutant planet. When the villain kills Magneto by reaching into his chest, it's reminiscent of when Superman lost control and killed the Joker during DC's Injustice.

In the Injustice alternate reality by DC Comics, Superman made a shocking turn towards becoming a villain after the Joker tricked him into believing via fear toxin that he was fighting Doomsday when really he was taking on Lois Lane, who was pregnant with their son. After the Clown Prince of Crime killed his family, leading to a bomb detonating and destroying Metropolis, Superman became broken and returned to Earth to kill the Joker. Famously, in a fit of rage, he stuck his hand through the Joker's chest, instantly killing the villain. Now, the iconic kill is getting a similar moment with Thanos' deadly ancestor against the X-Men's Magneto.

In X-Men: Red #5 by AL Ewing, Stefano Caselli, Federico Blee, and VC's Ariana Maher from Marvel Comics, Thanos' deadly ancestor Uranos is unleashed by the Prime-Eternal, Druig, to see how much death and chaos he can cause in a single hour against the X-Men. Unfortunately, the answer turns out to be quite a lot, as the genocidal villain uses a small percentage of his forces to nearly wipe out Arakko. Uranos' dominance is bookended by his encounter with Magneto, as he reaches through his opponent's chest and "kills" him, much like Superman killed the Joker in Injustice.

The strike is almost identical to DC's Superman killing the Joker. However, unlike the shocking nature of the Man of Steel losing control, Thanos' grand-uncle Uranos' blow is stunning because he makes Magneto look incredibly weak. The powerful mutant is pretty much helpless against the supervillain.

Superman killing the Joker while Batman looks shocked in Injustice Gods Among Us

While Superman killed the Joker, Uranos killing Magneto featured a surprise twist: something managed to keep him alive (possibly Arakko itself) despite getting impaled. However, that doesn't make the moment between the X-Men mutant and the maniacal ancestor of Thanos any less brutal. By copying Superman's darkest kill and plunging his hand through the chest of Magneto, Thanos' grand-uncle managed to assert his authority and show that he's a much worse threat than anything mutants have before. X-Men: Red #5 from Marvel Comics is now available in comic book stores and online retailers now.
