Spoilers for Thanos: Death Notes #1 by Marvel ComicsMarvel's Thanos may be returning to the Marvel Universe, as the Mad Titan will seemingly be brought back to life by Death. In a new preview for Thanos: Death Notes #1 by Marvel Comics, Thanos can be seen at the Tower of Death, where the living embodiment of Death seems to be considering bringing back the supervillain because of his important role in bringing balance to the Marvel Universe. Considering Thanos' currently unknown fate, the story seems to be the precursor for his long-awaited comeback.

The current status of Thanos in the Marvel Universe isn't exactly clear, as the powerful villain was last seen being stopped by the Eternals as he tried to destroy the world. However, in his absence, his presence still loomed largely. Thor has been shown dark visions of his death, with Thanos wielding a new seventh Infinity Stone, commanding an undead army. Meanwhile, Thanos' grand-uncle Uranos was unleashed in the A.X.E.: Judgment Day event, showing his own deadly powers, and was recently made a weapon for the X-Men. However, a new comic preview hints how Thanos might be returning as the big bad villain in the universe.

In the preview for the Thanos: Death Notes #1 story "Love and Death and Much In Between" from J. Michael Straczynski, Geoff Shaw, Dean White, Ruth Remond, and VC's Travis Lanham, the story takes readers to The Tower of Death. Inside, the soul of Thanos meets with Death and asks how he can serve her. Death's servant tells Thanos that recent events have the villain believing there is an "imbalance" within the Marvel Universe, as existence as they know it will be unchecked without his help. Death speaks to Thanos, telling him she needs his "talents" to restore balance.

The Story Could Be Hinting At How Thanos Returns To The Marvel Universe

Thanos Death Notes

While Marvel has confirmed when the story takes place, the single-page preview from the story in Thanos: Death Notes seems to suggest that Death will play a role - or has played a role - in his return to the Marvel Universe. In this case, Thanos, who has long sought Death's love and affection, is told he serves an important role in restoring balance, which has to be everything the Mad Titan has ever wanted to hear from the cosmic being.

If the story does have to do with the villain's return to the Marvel Universe, which hasn't been confirmed, will Death be responsible for bringing Thanos back to life? And does that potential resurrection have something to do with the new Black Infinity Stone that will debut in the series? Readers will find out more about what the interaction between Thanos and Death means when Thanos: Death Notes #1 by Marvel Comics arrives in comic book stores next Wednesday.
