Thanos and Game of Thrones' Night King stand face-to-face in a new piece of fan art shared by Avengers: Endgame directors Anthony and Joe Russo. Two of the biggest pieces of pop culture for the last ten years are both approaching their conclusions. The Marvel Cinematic Universe was born in 2008 and has become the premiere movie franchise in the world, as exemplified by by Avengers: Endgame's record-setting opening weekend.

On the small screen, though, it has been HBO's hit Game of Thrones series that has dominated the medium. The series began in 2011 and has become one of the biggest shows currently on the air, but also of all time. Just as Avengers: Endgame serves as the culmination of the 22 film Infinity SagaGame of Thrones is in the middle of its eighth and final season. Fans of both properties have been bracing to say goodbye to some of the main characters, and any such goodbyes will likely come as a result of their respective challenges.

While everyone has been focused on the Avengers facing Thanos and the living of Westeros facing the Night King and his army, what if Thanos and the Night King had to square off? Well, the Russo brothers shared a piece of fan art on their Instagram that imagines such a scenario. Created by digital artist Jeff Cole, the image brings the two now iconic villains together for an epic standoff.

Both Thanos and the Night King have proven to be formidable opponents for the heroes of their respective properties, but going against each other would be quite fascinating to see. The Russo brothers want to see them fight, and such a possibility will be one left up to the imagination of fans. Each of them have giant armies at their disposals, although the ability of the Night King to then use all of Thanos' minions his army kills would be a huge help, as would be his dragon. However, Thanos would likely have the edge if he has the full strength of the Infinity Gauntlet and all six Infinity Stones.

As large of a threat as Thanos and the Night King have both been, their future in each franchise is unclear. Even though Avengers: Endgame is the end of this part of the MCU, Marvel Studios is going to continue making movies after, so Thanos could return in any of those potentially, depending on what his fate is. The Night King is expected to be defeated by the end of this season of Game of Thrones too, and even though a prequel show is on the way, most are not anticipating seeing the Night King appear in it.
