Warning! Spoilers ahead for Eternals #4

In the latest issue of Marvel Comics' Eternals, the Mad Titan Thanos is convincing more of the immortal beings to join his side in his war against their own race. It seems as though eons of tensions, in-fighting, and rifts between groups has finally come to bite the Eternals back. While a handful of the Eternals are getting close to discovering the identity of the original traitor helping Thanos, the Mad Titan just got a brand new ally.

Thus far, Thanos has been traveling through the vast network known as the Eternals' Great Machine, the very same machine responsible for the balance and stability of Earth, as well as maintaining the processes needed for the Eternals to be reborn after death. While someone granted an exception to Thanos so that he could traverse the Great Machine, it's also been broken, meaning that the end of the world and the permanent deaths of the Eternals is at hand if the Great Machine can't be fixed. Now, Thanos has been on a rampage, killing these beings whom he sees as an affront to nature due to their immunity to death. While he began by murdering the Prime Eternal Zuras, he's since killed several Eternals in Polaria, the domain of Druig.

Known to be a deceptive snake, Druig is naturally the Eternals' prime suspect to be in league with the Mad Titan in Eternals #4 from writer Kieron Gillen and artist Esad Ribić. While Sersi and Phastos are working to repair the Great Machine (while also agreeing to not tell the Avengers about Thanos), Thena and Kingo confront Druig. However, any suspicions about him are cleared pretty quickly when Thanos arrived and nearly killed Druig. It was only thanks to a mental attack from Druig himself that bought him enough time until Thanos was seemingly repelled by the other Eternals. While Thena and Kingo leave to confront Gilgamesh (their next suspect), Druig is met with Thanos' return, as Druig had sent him a mental message mid-way through their battle to secretly offer his services.

While he wasn't the original Eternal traitor, Druig is fully prepared to be a second one now that none of the other Eternals suspect him. It's a smart and cunning move. Druig has seemingly chosen to throw his lot in with the Titan he sees as holding the winning hand, especially considering the Eternals currently have no way of resurrecting themselves. However, it's also possible that Druig is acting as an double agent in order to learn Thanos' secrets and plans. Even if that's not his intention currently, it is something he'll probably say to defend his actions when/if the Eternals defeat Thanos in future issues.

While Druig's new betrayal is pretty scummy, no one ever said every Eternal was good or on the same side. However, the entire Eternal race is on the verge of extinction, and it's more than likely that Thanos won't stop until every single one of them is dead, regardless of which ones might have helped him or not. In any case, Thanos now has two traitors on his side against the Eternals, and things are only going to get more intense as the series continues from Marvel Comics.
