Tessa Thompson says she is "obsessed" with the Saga series by Brian K. Vaughan (with art by Fiona Staples) and would want to star in an adaptation of the graphic novel. In addition to starring in Creed and the Dear White People movie, Thompson has become one of the most talked about parts of Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok. Her portrayal of the hard drinking, tough as nails warrior Valkyrie instantly had fans and filmmakers alike clamouring for the character to get her own spin-off film or lead Marvel's Phase 4.

Saga would be another great chance for Thompson to show off her acting skills. The space opera tells the story of Marko and Alana, two star crossed lovers from different sides of an intergalactic race war. Along with their daughter Hazel, they travel through space, fighting for their survival against those who are hunting them. The graphic novels are a mix of genres combining fantasy, science fiction, and political thrillers to tell the story of a family trying to remain together against all odds.

On Twitter, a fan commented that Thompson should play Alana in Saga after her performance in Thor: Ragnarok. Thompson responded with "That would be so dreamy" and later posted the cover from issue #8 of Saga with the caption "Mood" (see below)This started a flurry of activity online, from fancasting Oscar Isaac as Marko to Zack Stentz, writer of the first Thor, saying he would be "happy to write" the adaptation.

OH MY. i’m very *obsessed* with SAGA. That would be so dreamy. https://t.co/o6btPLvkEv— Tessa Thompson (@TessaThompson_x) November 7, 2017

While all of this sounds very exciting, there is no official news about an adaption of Saga in the works. In an interview with CBR this year, Vaughan said he and Staples might be interested in seeing  Saga in a different medium once the story is finished, but that for now they were focused on "making the greatest comic book (they) can." That means fans of both the comics and Thompson shouldn't lose hope just yet.

Fans know all about waiting for adaptations of Vaughan's work. Marvel's Runaways - about a group of teenagers who find out their parents are supervillians - was published in 2006 and will finally be coming to Hulu this month. A Y: The Last Man adaptation has been talked about for years and has finally found its showrunner in Michael Green (American Gods) and a draft of the script. The graphic novel was published in 2002 about the only man who survives after the mysterious deaths of every other man on Earth. These adaptations are worth the wait to find the right network, writers, and cast to accurately capture the magic of Vaughan's storytelling.

There is no doubt Saga would make a great TV series (or film if it came to that).  The series is celebrated for its diverse characters and portrayals of war, race, sexuality, gender, and class and combines all that with Star Wars-like adventure, Romeo and Juliet-esque romance, and Game of Thrones-inspired family politics. So at least when the comic series is over in its current form, there will be another place for it in popular culture and another audience ready to embrace it.
