Tesla workers won't be affected by the recently implemented COVID-19 safety plan issued by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). The company can continue operating while the restrictive curfew is in place, halting any nonessential work and gatherings between 10 pm and 5 am. Tesla CEO Elon Musk, meanwhile,  has been teasing about the company's plans for the holidays.

Tesla's factory in Fremont, California, which is responsible for manufacturing most of the components for its electric vehicles (EVs), will play a vital role in delivering that plan. The automaker is one of the largest manufacturing employers in California, accommodating over 10,000 employees at Fremont alone. Musk had already made promises about certain Tesla model variants dropping ahead of Christmas before California's COVID-19 safety plan was enacted and it could have significantly impacted progress.

The curfew restrictions won't be a problem for Tesla employees, though, due to the CDPH identifying them as essential workers, according to CNBC. California's list of exempt work includes machinery manufacturing, electrical equipment, component manufacturing, and transportation equipment manufacturing, as these are regarded as being instrumental “to many other critical infrastructure sectors.” However, employees are still subject to a slew of safety guidelines while working, which include disinfecting protocols and physical distancing measures, among others.

How Tesla's Head Is Affecting Its Public Image

Just because Tesla employees can breathe easy knowing that they'll be continuing to work despite the restrictions doesn't mean their CEO will be as content with the current situation regarding the pandemic. Tesla owners are eagerly awaiting early updates from its enigmatic CEO regarding the company's EVs but are often greeted with concerning tweets regarding COVID-19. Musk publicly queried his recent COVID-19 test results, suggesting that something “extremely bogus” is going on. His controversial sentiments about the pandemic have not necessarily reflected the company in a good light.

This isn't the first time Musk has been under fire for controversial tweets either, with him having made some questionable comments about the pandemic previously. Only time will tell how significant Musk's volatile public statements are affecting the company's current standing but, in the meantime, Tesla will have the chance to reap the fruits of its labor this holiday season as operations continue unhampered regardless of restrictions that could be affecting other industries.
