Tesla's Premium Connectivity package allows users to access additional services for a monthly fee of $9.99. Thanks to connected cars, drivers get to enjoy a plethora of infotainment features like navigation and music streaming. Additionally, smartphone integrated tech like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay ensure that vehicle owners can view texts, calendars, and their favorite apps on their car’s display.

Tesla offers two connectivity packages — Standard and Premium. All new Tesla orders come with a Premium Connectivity trial. The subscription costs $9.99 per month or $99.9 per year, not including taxes. Premium Connectivity brings features like Navigation, Live Traffic Visualization, Sentry Mode-View Live Camera, Satellite View Maps, Video Streaming, Caraoke, Music Streaming, and Internet Browser. Premium Connectivity users will need a Wi-Fi connection to use Caraoke and the Internet Browser. Meanwhile, streaming videos and music require users to have a paid subscription to these services.

How To Subscribe To Tesla Premium Connectivity

Until 2022, Tesla included unlimited access to Standard Connectivity with all new vehicle purchases. However, Tesla has now placed an eight-year limit on Standard Connectivity, applicable to purchases made after on or after July 20, 2022. Meanwhile, Premium Connectivity is available for free to Tesla vehicles ordered on or before June 30, 2018 for the lifetime of the vehicle.

As a result, only Tesla vehicles purchased on or after July 1, 2018 need to purchase a Premium Connectivity plan. Drivers can subscribe using the car’s touchscreen or the Tesla mobile app. For the touchscreen method, drivers need to tap 'Controls' and then 'Upgrades' once that option is displayed. The next step is choosing 'Swipe to Purchase.' To get the premium features, users will need to install a software update which is possible only when the car is stationary.

Tesla vehicles need to be updated to software version 2021.40.5 or later to subscribe from the touchscreen. If there's no record of the billing address or credit card, the subscription has to be completed in the app. Using the Tesla app to subscribe to Premium Connectivity is similar to the touchscreen method. At the moment, Premium Connectivity can be accessed by Tesla owners in North America, Asia Pacific, and parts of Europe.

Tesla offers varying trial periods for Premium Connectivity, depending on the model purchased. The top-end Model S and Model X are eligible for a one-year trial to Premium Connectivity, both for inventory and new orders placed on or after July 1, 2018. The cheaper Model 3 and Model Y get access to a much shorter 30-day trial period, for new and inventory orders purchased on or after October 15, 2021.

Used Teslas ordered on or after January 9, 2020, and Tesla vehicles that have been purchased privately or have transferred ownership on or after January 21, 2020 will also get a 30-day trial. If privately purchased or transferred ownership Teslas have an active Premium Connectivity trial, the new buyer will only receive access for the remaining duration of the trial period. Tesla will send users an email a week before their trial ends to remind them to subscribe for continued access to Premium Connectivity.
