Terry Crews has taken to Twitter, adding his name to the ever-growing list of fans craving the localization of Mother 3, something that’s been repeatedly asked for over the past 15 years. Mother 3 released in 2006 exclusively in Japan. Ever since western audiences have begged Nintendo for the game’s localization. Nintendo, particularly ex-president Reggie Fils-Aimé, has always responded jokingly to requests about Mother 3.

The Mother series has a history of localization difficulties. The original game released for the Nintendo Famicon in 1989 as a Japan-exclusive title as well, and also like Mother 3, the original Mother was only introduced to western audiences via its fans. An English localization of Mother was found by hackers, and the ROM was released to the internet as EarthBound Zero in the late ‘90s. However, Mother did get an official western release in 2015 for Nintendo’s Wii U as EarthBound Beginnings. The second game, Mother 2 or EarthBound, had a more typical localization with its official western release coming in 1995, less than a year after the Japanese version. Mother 3 did receive an English translation by fans in 2008, but this did little to quench the thirst of the gaming community. Now, Mother 3 has just finished celebrating its 15th anniversary, and the gaming community still awaits the official western version of the game.

Terry Crews appears to be one of the many still waiting, according to a tweet on Friday. As of the time of writing this article, the tweet has received thousands of replies, tens of thousands of retweets, and hundreds of thousands of likes. Crews’ desire for Mother 3 localization has been answered, and unsurprisingly, he’s received overwhelming support from the gaming community. At least once every year, the wheels start turning again amongst Mother 3 fans, and between the game’s 15th anniversary and the localization of Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light in 2020, the buzz has come early this year.

Crews is known best for his acting career, but he’s worn many hats throughout the years. Prior to becoming known for his roles as Terry Jeffords in Brooklyn Nine-Nine and the face of Old Spice commercials, he played five years in the National Football League as a linebacker and defensive lineman. He’s also an artist, husband, father of five, and fan of video games. He even appeared in Crackdown 3, an Xbox exclusive title, as Commander Jaxon and cemented himself as the face of the game leading up to its 2019 release. While the game became one of the biggest flops of 2019 and Xbox’s portfolio after several delays and featuring mediocre gameplay upon release, Crews brought a certain excitement to the game’s marketing.

It seems whenever Terry Crews gets involved in the gaming industry, there’s some fun energy surrounding it. After all, Crews himself is a charismatic individual who typically likes to take on fun and often goofy roles. It’s unlikely that his support will get Nintendo moving on the localization of Mother 3, but fans will be glad to know they have more firepower from someone like Crews.
